Seokjin's POV

"You're late my son, what took you so long?"

~

"Sorry father, I was enjoying my morning walk and totally forgot the time. Forgive me, it won't happen again."

I walked over to my six younger brothers, giving each of them a small smile which they returned before taking my place between Yoongi and Namjoon, eyes focusing on my father again as we all awaited his final decision.

"Namjoon, for a second year running you'll be taking on the role of keeper of the ancient scrolls and head librarian. I've spoken with the others you've been working with and they seem more than happy to continue working under your supervision, the library is in excellent condition and I trust you can keep that up over the next year."

I noticed Namjoon instantly relax beside me, he loved his work within the kingdom library so this must be excellent news for him.

"I appreciate this father, I promise not to disappoint you." Namjoon sighed happily and our father softened a little at how grateful and courteous his response was.

"I've got no doubt about that my son, once we're done here you can return to your staff and inform them of the good news."

Namjoon gave a nod and then fell silent as my father stood and made his way down the few steps that separated us from him. This was tradition within the kingdom, once a prince was assigned his role within the palace he would be given a sash and pin of his recently acquired title.

Our father approached Namjoon, one of his personal guards quickly stepped beside him with each coloured sash draped neatly over his forearm.

"Congratulations my son." He smiled, taking the blue sash and fixing it over Namjoon's palace uniform. He then snapped his fingers, another guard stepped beside him with a small box.
Inside the box were seven different coloured pins, just like with the sash my father fixed the blue pin on Namjoon's uniform.

Namjoon took a step back, bowed and then allowed my father to move over to Yoongi.....why did he skip me? I was a little apprehensive for some reason.

"Yoongi, for the second year running you'll be keeper of the magical realm. I don't see anyone else who can possibly take this role, you're clearly respected by those like yourself who possess the ability to harness magic."

"Thanks, was about to say that myself."  Yoongi was more than confident in his abilities and never doubted he would be chosen for this again, he winked at our father who rolled his eyes as the rest of us laughed.

"Ever the modest prince hm?"

"I still appreciate it though father, I'll make you proud."

Yoongi bowed after our father fixed his black sash and pin.

"Hoseok, it wouldn't benefit the kingdom to replace you as keeper of the people. They admire, trust and respect you. I'm proud of how well you've done so far and wish for you to keep the role, congratulations."

He fixed Hoseok with a yellow sash and pin.

"Thanks dad....I mean father." Hoseok forgot his formal surroundings for a moment but quickly rectified that as he stepped back and bowed.

"Jimin and Taehyung, I see no need to split the two of you up. I know how much the woodland realm and the creatures that reside there mean to you, besides....you're the only two that the Seelie Queen trusts so for a second year you Jimin....will be keeper of magical creatures and Taehyung keeper of the woodland realm."

Jimin and Taehyung were each given a green sash and pin, the two gave each other a smile before taking a bow.

"Thank you father, we'll continue to do good work." Jimin smiled.

"Yes, we appreciate this father." Taehyung added.

It was finally Jungkook's turn, I was growing more and more nervous as to why father had skipped me earlier though....there had to be a reason for that?

"Jungkook, you've got the respect of our palace guard. I know they wouldn't work for anyone else like they do for you, it wouldn't make sense to give this role to anyone but you. Jungkook, congratulations on becoming keeper of the guard for a second year."

"Thanks pops, you know you've picked wisely."  Jungkook always got away with speaking like that in a formal situation because he was the youngest and even though my father would never admit it he had a soft spot for the kid as did we all.

Jungkook was fixed with a red sash and pin, he took a bow and stepped back.....leaving just me.

"Jin, my eldest. I without a doubt in my mind bestow upon you keeper of the gateway for a second year, there's nobody but you who deserves this role and great responsibility. I left you for last because there's an additional role you've been given this year, a very special role. I would like you to join me on our first trip through the gateway together, it'll be your first reconnaissance mission to the mortal realm."

I couldn't believe it, my lips parted but I couldn't find the words. I remained in shock as my father fixed me with a purple sash and pin.

"Lost for words son?" He chuckled as I finally took a step back and bowed.

"I....yes father but you've no idea what this means to me. I....just....thank you so much for this honour."

"You're welcome."

He took a step back, eyes filled with pride.

"My boys....all grown up. It won't be long before you've got families of your own, one day you'll be doing this for them."

I smiled, turning my head quickly to frown at Taehyung as he laughed.

"I don't plan on getting married anytime soon father, Jin will be the first one to give you grandchildren."

I shook my head and laughed.

Looking back at that day it still makes me laugh because it wasn't me who gave our father his first grandchild but Taehyung....the very one who said he wasn't ready for marriage.

Yet that changed the moment he laid eyes on her....the human girl who stole his heart and definitely didn't make things easy for him.

Her name was Y/N and this is the story of how she entered our lives and captured the heart of not just my brother but an entire kingdom.
