A/N: Hey guys! So I wrote this story about 5 months ago, but just now got around to publishing it lol. Hope you enjoy and have a wonderful day!
The man had just moved to a new town and hadn't had time to find an apartment. Luckily, there was a hotel within walking distance that had a vacancy. When he pulled open the wooden doors, the scent of lemon air-freshener filled his nostrils. He wrinkled his nose in distaste.
"Guess it'll have to do,"he sighed.
Then he noticed the cheerful looking hostess waiting at the front desk.
"Hello, my name's Jenny, how can I help you?"She said with a bright smile on her face.
'Some people are just too happy', the man thought grumpily.
The woman was still smilingly widely, waiting for him to answer her.
"Uh...I was wondering if I could get a room?" the man asked hesitantly.
Jenny's eyes lit up as she said, "Of course, here's your room key. We've been expecting you."
"Who's we?" the man muttered to himself as he grabbed the key from her outstretched hand, and headed up to his room. The man shook his head, dispelling the thoughts from his mind. He glanced down at his key and saw his room was on the second floor.
'At least I don't have to walk up miles of stairs,' he thought smiling slightly.
As the man opened the door to his room, he slung his bag on the bed and sighed, "This isn't a 5-star hotel by any means, but it's better than nothing."
He was at first surprised how there was an open room at this hotel in the middle of the holiday season, but he reasoned it was quite a small town, and there was probably only 500 people at the most. This was a completely different atmosphere than what he was used to. Where he came from there was normally busy streets packed with cars and a cities full of noise. Here, it was quiet except for the occasional car or cricket. Still, it was a welcome change of pace for the man.
'This is why I moved here,' he thought, 'to get some fresh air and some peace and quiet.'
The man unpacked his bag and got into his sleepwear; a t-shirt and his boxers. He got into bed and waited for sleep to come. The only sounds he could hear were the hum of the heater and creaking from other people in the hotel. It unnerved him a little because he was used to the sounds of cars driving by and people partying. Now, without these sounds, the quiet made him tense and uneasy. He sweared he could hear footsteps outside his room.
'No...I'm just being paranoid. I'm in a new city, a new bed, I just need to calm down and try to fall asleep,' the man thought nervously.
"It's probably just a cleaning lady or something,"he said slowly.
'At 12:00 o'clock at night?!' the man thought, starting to become scared.
"Maybe if I wait long enough...they'll leave?" The man whispered, chuckling slightly. He couldn't even convince himself that that could be true.
Then, he heard his door slowly being pushed open, and his blood ran cold. He began to sweat nervously and crawled under the covers and closed his eyes.
'This is all a dream. This is all a dream..' he chanted to himself internally. He could sense someone entering the room and walking closer. He tried not to flinch as the person finally reached his bed. The mysterious person pulled a string that turned on the lamp on the bedside table. In the quiet room, the small noise seemed to be deafening.
The man slowly cracked open his eyes. He saw there was a tall man standing over him who seemed to be examining every detail of his face.
"Perfect," the mystery man whispered, as if in awe.
Then the man noticed the mystery man was holding a knife. He watches as it glinted dangerously in the lamplight. He sucked in a breath a breath as he realized why the mystery man was here...he was here to kill him.
