/* Hello everyone! I have finally decided to make myself write something on here. This is much different then what I usually write but it is, for once, something that I think I will be able to stick with and maybe (crosses fingers) update regularly.

Hopefully, it is a bit different from what the vampire werewolf genre normally offers.

I apologize in advance for any spelling, grammar, and/or punctuation errors but I am typing this on my phone in the time I have between classes so... sorry. *shrugs* Point them out or not, doesn't really matter, 'cause I will have no time to go back and change anything or edit 'till summer.
(I really shouldn't even be doing this in my free time. I have multiple final papers due in like 2 weeks)

Onward to the story!!! */

--------oOo--------

I had just caught a rabbit when I heard them. Or rather, heard the silence that signified their presence. The type of silence only a predator can bring to the woods. It made my spine tingle and my ears twitch.

For one infinite moment everything was still and then I was running, the still living rabbit forgotten on the forest floor where I had been standing. It took them only a moment to give chase, only a moment to emerge from the trees around me and try to close in.

A big dark, grey wolf lunged out from the bushes to my left as one with a lighter reddish tint to the fur came flying from the opposite side only a few feet from me. Panic bloomed in my chest as I tried to dodge but a third's heavy jaw snapped onto the back of my calf, clamped down, and tore into the muscle. I screamed as I wrenched myself away and took off into the trees. I could feel the wetness of my blood from the wound trailing down my leg and could smell it in the air but adrenaline had numbed the pain. I couldn't feel anything.

Thunderous growls followed me as I sprinted aimlessly into the woods. My only goal was to get away, but, though my panic had numbed the pain of my wound, it had not made it better. The limb felt heavy as I ran through my limp. and I could feel my speed slipping as I stumbled through the trees. It was getting stiff and rebelled against my orders.

I had only made it another 50 feet when one of the wolves caught me again in its jaws. I twisted and struck at the furry muzzle latched onto my shoulder as the reddish one lunged at my core. A swift kick with my good leg sent the wolf to the side and finally I was able to claw the wolf's jaw from my shoulder.

Scrambling up from the dirt I threw my self forward before the two were able to strike again. I could hear their claws dig into the dirt as they launched them selves after me.

They would kill me. Of that I had no doubt. The rusty tang of my blood was already thick in the air. My normally pale skin was now the grey of death, but still, I pushed on throwing my body through the trees and sharp underbrush in what I knew, intellectually, was a ridiculously futile attempt at self-preservation. An attempt that I simply couldn't not make.

I didn't have much longer. They were gaining ground at a comically tragic pace. My movements were slowing as my head swam from loss of blood. I blinked and the ground was suddenly much closer to my face as I tumbled forward on useless legs.

I lay still for a heartbeat as my increasingly hazy mind absorbed this new information. Why was I on the ground? I needed to run, to get away. What was I doing laying around? It didn't make sense but I was to tired to even try to think about the effort it would take to stand up so, with a shaky exhale I rolled my numb body over and squirmed my torso onto the trunk of a tree so that I could at least face my killers as I died.

I blinked again and then they were upon me. Three wolves, two already doused in my blood, came through the undergrowth like spirits, like wraiths of death, and still that small detached corner of my mind couldn't help but be amazed by the beauty before me. The sound of their snarls and growls started to fade as a heavy silence envelped my mind. My vision twisted as the leader went to lunge and black spots danced across the woods. I blinked once more but, this time when my eyes opened the red-stained muzzle in my face was gone.

With unfocused eyes I searched lazily for the wolves only to find them a good 10 feet away limp on the dirt. My brow furrowed in confusion as I tried in vain to understand. I took me a moment to even see the girl standing among the furry bodies. Her head started to turn toward me but my eyes slid closed.
