If being in love was the only thing that could break your heart, Jimin wouldn't feel his own cracking in half. The heat of tears prick at his eyes and he curses himself for them. What a shame that he can't run out of them. He'd lower his head more if he could, but his fringe already hangs over his moisture filled eyes. He watches his hands, voice so soft and damaged when it comes out the breeze almost carries it away. "I care." Jimin whispers, knowing that his little promise is not enough.
Taehyung's shoulders drop. He hadn't noticed they were tensed until the sound of Jimin's voice made him realize he's pushing his own problems onto a boy that's already carrying too many of his own. Jimin won't look at him, but the smallers frame trembles. "I just mean-"
"I promise I care." Jimin interrupts this time, sniffling back the bothersome nature of emotional tears that make him seem pitiful. He hates them and the way that they make him shake. He hates the way his heart brings them out whenever it hurts. What a curse it is to feel. "I know it must look like I'm making a habit of disappearing, but I don't mean to."
Taehyung chews on the inside of his cheek, settling his expression into something stern. It masks the swirl of emotions he's feeling watching Jimin wipe away an onslaught of tears from his bowed face, "Jimin, don't cry." The younger whispers, looking down at his own lap because he's already starting to feel bad about the storm of words he blurted out so carelessly before. He meant them, but they were too sharp.
"I'm sorry, Taehyung. I really am. I was selfish." Jimin heaves out the apology, fighting against his heartbeat in his throat.
Jimin's apology makes Taehyung feel worse instead of better, because telling his own truth did damage he didn't think he would mind. But he does mind, because Jimin doesn't cry for the sake of pity. Jimin doesn't show how bad that he feels, instead he hides. Jimin wants to make everyone happy, but his heart is so obviously shattered that Taehyung feels his own breaking, too. "I- I'm mostly venting, I didn't know it would- I was a little mean, don't cry so much." He tries to explain himself, so that maybe Jimin won't feel so bad. His fingers claw the table again, inching towards the other with apparent concern this time.
Jimin tries to laugh away the stream of tears that cascade down his cheeks. They well up in his eyes and choke up his throat, making his chuckle sound raspy and forced. He wipes them away with the sleeve of Jungkook's hoodie that covers his fingers with their extra length. "You're not mean, TaeTae. You're just honest." He loathes himself, the emotion making his skin crawl. His eyes leak tears even when he shuts them tight and he can't stop the shake of his bones. Long arms surround his frame suddenly. Jimin hadn't even heard Taehyung moving towards him in the silence, his head loud with poisonous thoughts. Taehyung's hug stops him from quaking enough for Jimin to catch his breath.
"I forgive you." Taehyung whispers, letting the weight of his body and his heart rest against Jimin's small frame. He should've known that holding grudges could never be his thing. The first sight of Jimin, with his reserved expression and wary eyes, had his defenses shaken. Feeling betrayed, left behind, unimportant, those emotions feel selfish in the grim light of Jimin's despair. Feeling as if Jimin can't be honest with him feels less important than consoling his wounded friend. Taehyung takes his arms away from the other only to kneel beside him. He holds Jimin's hand in his own, wanting to say so many things at once they come out as silence.
Jimin feels awful, truly. He knew that coming back would spell out disaster for his emotions. He knew that he would cry and make a mess of himself in front of his friends, make them witness his tear drenched face and the horrible sound of sobbing gasps that tag along. Jimin didn't know that it would feel so scary to think of telling his friends the truth of what happened to him, especially after Jungkook has invested so much time and energy into making him feel safe and loved. Without even knowing any answer, after only the sight of tears, Taehyung can utter words of forgiveness with his heart of pure gold. Jimin doesn't want to make him regret that, he doesn't want to waste anymore time focusing on only himself. "If you can already forgive me, I think I should tell you why I left." He brushes back the fringe from his face with the hand Taehyung doesn't hold. Heaving a sigh, Jimin looks at his friend with glassy eyes. "It was so selfish, TaeTae, but I never meant to abandon you."

A/N: I haven't been sure of including Jimin's explanation for why he left. I think that what he went through could be kept between himself and Jungkook, but with the close relationship he has with his friends, it would feel strange for him to not tell them. In my own most difficult times, even after confiding in my significant other, I still found solace in my close friends.
Anyway, I love you so much as always~ I know this was another angsty chapter, but it was necessary I feel. There might be one more, unless I skip the explanation portion of the story. Maybe you guys would prefer that or should I write it out? I'm thinking out loud, heh.. tell me what you think if you want to~ 💕
Be well my lovelies. You are all so beautiful and I adore you more than you can possibly fathom. ❤️
