"Will she live?"
"Who cares? She's an orphan. Nobody will care."
"But-"
"Put her in the chamber. Now!"
At first, it was a sharp, bitter cold. Deprived of any warmth. Freezing the veins and filling the blood with ice. The skin was blue with cold, almost giving frostbite. Gradually, it numbed to a dull prick.
She opened her eyes. Blinding white filled them. She clamped them shut, shivering. The cold was back, raw and stinging like burning acid. It hurt.
Very much.
She longed for warmth, but that was gone. Everything was gone, except for the intense coldness that surrounded her. It threatened to swallow her whole, make her one with it. Slowly, it did, in a way. Filling her veins, the ice moved to the surface, freezing and cracking her skin and forming crystals. She opened her eyes again. The blinding white wasn't as intense, but it still hurt.
She'd dealt with worse.
Before she was a sheet of ice, layered with frost. A girl, not her own self, was staring back through the flowing designs. Gone was the long brown hair; in its place was pure golden white hair, with blue-white streaks dashing down. Raw, icy blue eyes had taken place of the dull, brown eyes. The tan skin was now a pale white color.
"What have...they done?" she whispered. The girl in the ice moved her mouth with her own. Slowly, she reached out a finger. The girl copied her, and when they touched, she wasn't sure who was who.
Suddenly, a loud, high-pitched whirring/beeping noise filled the air. The girl screamed and covered her ears. Ice struck around her, covering the reflection in frost and snow. It was cold, more so than it had ever been. The girl could hardly breathe. She felt fear and terror course through her veins and something along with the adrenaline. It was bitter, but...refreshing at the same time. It filled her body with power, cold, sharp, and wintery. She loved it.
The girl lifted her hands. Her frozen skin was cracked, but a glowing blue light was emanating from the jagged slashes, and frost was quickly covering them. She moved her hands in front of her and hit something solid. Icy frost was covering the glass. She pulsed, shattering it. All around her, snow and glass exploded, smashing everything in its path. The cold was now not so intense.
She was free.
