Getting Things Sorted

You sat with your head in your hands, staring at the ground. Small sprigs of ivy laced up each other, dancing in front of you like tiny ballerinas. You felt a sadness you had never felt before, the day you exiled didn't hold a candle to the ache in your core now.
The pain grew until it made your throat hurt, another new feeling, and your nose burnt until your eyes watered.
You imagined this is what it was like to be shattered, where your very structure seemed to split into a whole bunch of painful shards. You had never felt such a feeling before. This fact made you try your best to get rid of it. You stood up resiliently, wiping your face of the tears you had shed. You ran a finger over your gem pieces as you climbed out of the hole you'd been hiding in. You had found it while decorating the planet. After the time spent holed up, you were sure you'd need a place to escape to, and you had; you just hoped it wasn't so often and it didn't feel so bad...
As you traveled back to the docking platform, many off colors waved at you, and this lifted your spirits just enough to make you practically forget your perturbance. Then you heard your favorite Captain, laughing.
It made your stomach flutter for a moment before you turned around and saw that the /reason/ he was laughing was because of the same pyrite from before.
You felt the hot tears rise to your eyes at the affection shown between the two despite only meeting a few hours ago.
But, maybe it hadn't been a few hours ago... Lars had been gone for a month. He'd only known /you/ for a day and a half.
Maybe you were the outsider here.
This made a weird sinking feeling grip your chest, and you felt dizzy for a moment.
No. You wouldn't let this get to you. If Lars had planned only to use you no strings attached and you agreed to do as such, there was no reason to feel this way.
You flexed your hands and walked forward purposefully.
When you reached them, Lars was still coming down from his laughter, now only chuckling.
You looked at the pyrite, and were suddenly taken aback by the unflattering colors of their form.
She was like no pyrite you'd ever seen.
Pyrites by definition were supposed to appeal to the eye and attract others visually. They were good at entertainment, but weren't the most pleasant to interact with. They were referred to as 'Fool's Gold' because so many gems had been tricked into harboring affection only to be let down by the unwillingness of the pyrite they had their eyes on.
So you were astounded to see the somewhat askew features that fit together to compose her form.
Nevertheless, you held your hand out to her.
"Hello, I'm Chrysoprase." You said amiably.
Lars had stopped laughing now, but you fought your eyes from looking at him.
The pyrite looked surprised, and took your hand.
"I'm Pyrite."
She answered warmly, and you were suddenly thrown into an overwhelming sense of... fondness? You cleared your throat and nodded to her.
"Nice to meet you."
She grinned at you and nodded back.
"Nice to meet you too! I hadn't seen you before, but everyone told me you were the one to make this planet inhabitable for all of us off colors. I am very thankful for your hard work, you did a really good job, and it's not just me who thinks that."
She gave you a wink that made her whole face light up. You felt the previous feelings of jealousy melt away at that.
"Thank you. As an off color, it was one of the abilities I was granted." You answered.
"Wow!" She looked away wistfully. "It's very impressive! All I've got is an uncontrollable charisma." She blushed.
"I'm sure you felt it, right?"
You blinked at her slowly.
"That's what it was?" You said quietly.
She laughed, a nice caramel sound that made your throat suddenly go dry.
"Yes, that's what it was,"
She smirked at you and you smiled back involuntarily.
"I really can't control it. I've been like this since I was cut out! It's rather bothersome, having everyone try to court you all of the time. I don't even try to flirt, but..." she sighed and shrugged.
You found the heart to look at Lars, who was staring at you silently, an unreadable expression on his face.
"Uh- well it was nice to meet you Pyrite," you murmured turning back to her.
"Yes, it was nice meeting you too." She smiled.
You gave once last glance to Lars before turning away from the both of them.
So he wasn't really ignoring you, or falling in love with someone else. It was just a peculiar circumstance. You felt better knowing, and set out to talk to even more off colors.
