Mabel screamed.

She raced down the stairs and out into the yard, rushing up to Dipper who lay spread eagled on the grass, not moving.

"No no nonono," she moaned, choking on her tears. "Dipper, no, I'm so sorry-" She stared at his tiny, crumbled figure.

Dipper's face was placid, bruised, cut and bloody. He looked as though he was trying to open his eyes through his slit lids, but his breathing was dangerously shallow and he slipped in and out of consciousness. Blood ran from his nose and mouth. He held his arms and legs close to him; they looked sprained or broken- and a moment later Mabel saw in disgusted horror that on his left leg a shard of pearly white bone pierced the bruised and ripped flesh. Crystals of sparkling, scarlet stained glass cut into him. This will mean even more scars, thought Mabel.

"Mabel?"

Stan came running out of the shack, having heard Mabel's scream.

"What's going on?" He demanded, and then, seeing Dipper, "what happened?!" He sank to his knees beside his great-nephew.

Thick tears were streaming down Mabel's face. Her hands were shaking violently as they were fumbling clumsily on Dipper's chest, from which hot dark blood was leaking from a particularly large piece of glass which was sunk into his upper ribs.

"I- I-" she stammered. "He- he fell-"

"Fell?" Cried Stan, staring down on Dipper with worried eyes as wide as saucers. His hands wandered to the shards of glass around the boy. He looked up to the window above them, and , making the connection, his jaw dropped.

"Mabel," he said urgently. "Go and get Soos. Get him to go bring his pick up truck round. I can't believe he's fallen from so high up... We need to get him to a hospital."

Mabel trembled.

"I-"

"Now!" Stan shouted, and she ran into the house.

Stan turned to Dipper with his heart thundering violently near his Adam's apple. He tenderly placed his first two fingers on the boy's neck, and felt, holding his breath, for a pulse.

Nothing.
