It's Complicated

Chapter One

"Hurry now Elijah!" I yell at my little brother, it's his first day of school and we're allready running late.

"I'm coming Rubs!" He yells as he comes running down the stairs, I chuckle at his nickname for me.

"Well how cute do you look?" I say as I lift him up and turn him upside down. He is wearing a green sweater and some grey jeans, a little to big for his little body. He is pretty small, around 3.6ft or so.

"Heyyy! Ruby I'm not cute! I'm cool!" he yells in between laughter and crosses his arms. I put him down at the ground again and study him. "hmm... nope still cute" I say and mess with his hair.

Elijah has black curly messy hair and gorgeous emerald green eyes. He laughs and runs towards the door with his little black backpack on. He runs outside and wait for me outside my car.

We sit down in my car and begin to drive towards the school. We just moved here and both me and Elijah are beginning in a new school. Lucky for me, being his only available family member and adult guardian I don't have to drive that much.

"Rubs? Do you think I am going to get any friends today?" He asks me and look at me big eyed.

"Of course Elijah, everyone is going to wanna be your friend" I say and smile to him. I mean who can dislike him? He's the most beautiful creature I've ever seen.

"And girlfriends! I am going to get a hundred girlfriends today!" he says, I let out a laugh. And keep driving.

We we're now at the school and I pulled up in a free parking spot.

We stepped out of the car and I locked the car, I turned around to look at the school. It was a really big modern looking school with two buildings. One of the buildings were just about 200 feet away while the other building as I assume is the kids building was quite far away.

I took Elijah's hand and walked towards the kids building. There was kids playing everywhere and kids laughter filled my ears, we stood in front of the main door when Elijah froze.

"Ruby? What if I don't get any friends?" He said looking down at his feet.

I sat down on my knees and made him look me in the eyes. His eyes looked sad and quite scared. "Elijah don't think like that, of course you are going to get friends" I say and pull him into a hug.

He smiled to me and nodded before he walked in to the building. I stood up and walked over to the "Teen" building.

There were a couple of people outside but it didn't seem like they noticed me. I walked in the main door to face a fight, or more like one boy beat up a really hurt boy.

"Comon' Damian!" "Beat him up!" "Take him Damian!" People were cheering at the guy apparently named Damian who I guess was the boy who were beating up the other boy.

I was about to run away when a girl screamed and jumped in front of the boy who got beated up. "OH MY GOD JAMIE!" She screamed and protected the hurt boy apparently named Jamie.

People got quiet for a few seconds before they started yelling again. "Hit her!" "Get her out of the way!" "Stupid b**ch get out off the way"

Damian stood up and looked at the girl before saying. "I don't hit girls" And with those few words he left and just few seconds so did everybody else, except from me, Jamie and the girl.

"Are.. are you guys okay?" I ask quietly. Even though it looks like Jamie definitively is not, his nose is bleeding and he have ugly bruises all over his face and by the looks of it, I can tell he is about to pass out.

The girl looked at me with fear and anger in her eyes. "What do you want?" she says rudely, i don't blame her though I understand why.

I walk over to them and look at Jamie. "Can I please help?" I say and look at the girl again.
