"I don't even like you", she grabbed her sister's hand and stormed away.

"But you just met me!", I called back. It was no use, she had walked a long way already.

It was a Monday evening. School had been awkwardly interesting, for a Monday. I dialled my best friend's number and waited to hear his voice on the other end of the receiver.

"What's up? ", came his voice.
"Yeah, where you at?" I asked "it's getting late already "
"uhm, sorry bro but I'm having another class in the next 5 minutes so I don't think I'll be able to meet up"
"cool. Catch you later ".

I sat down on a slab and fiddled with my phone. What had I done wrong? Was it something I had said? I couldn't just get the puzzle pieces quite in place.

On getting home, I heard voices coming from inside the house. I stopped to listen but couldn't get a word out of all the commotion. I opened the front door and was met by my mother's frustrated face and another weird looking woman with a real long dress that was probably cleaning up the floor for me.

"good evening ", I muttered and walked past the women.

"honey, your food's in the kitchen ",my mom called after me.

"I'm not hungry", I shot back as I made my way up the stairs.

I threw my bag on the floor of my room the second I got in and flung my skinny body on my bed.

I heaved a sigh.

It had been a long day, I thought to myself. A real long trashy day.
I picked up a comic book from the side of my bed and flipped the pages so hard they almost came off.

"hello? ",my mom poked her head into my room. "can I come in? "

"sure"
She walked up to my bed and sat on the edge. I sat up straight, my back against the wall.

"how's school? ",she looked worried.
"fine"
"come on Leonard, don't be so stuck up on yourself ",she pressed my hand ever so slightly.

I looked up at her face and decided I could actually tell her how I was feeling.

"I hate school ", I blurted out. I didn't even have time to think about what I said before I said it but I played along nicely "I want to go back"

"I know it's hard for you to adjust to the new environment but it's been three weeks Leo. I believed you should have made some new friends by now" she shifted her weight.

"oh, I do have a friend " I forced a smile
"who's that? ",I could see her face was lighting up.
"Dean"

Her smile faded so quickly.

"I said new friends, not childhood best friend "she was uncomfortable I could tell.

"it's a lot harder than you think ma" I stood up and walked to my window "I feel like an alien in this place. It's only Dean that really gets me"

My mom had stood up and was standing beside me.
"it's going to be ok"she squeezed my shoulder "I know it is"
"thanks".
"that's what I'm here for "she planted a kiss on my forehead and walked out the door "by the way, your food's getting cold"

I grinned widely and made my way to the kitchen.
