Chapter Twenty-One

Holy shit - things were getting crazy.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps and a light cough behind me.

My heart immediately sank - it had to be Jacques.

I stood up, ready to face him... but to my surprise, it wasn't Jacques - it was a complete stranger.

Correction - a completely gorgeous stranger. His unexpected appearance caught me off guard. I stared at him in bewilderment and he smiled.

He was stunningly handsome - in fact, he looked like he had fallen out of a medieval fantasy where he was playing the role of an elvish prince.

He was tall and willowy with pale skin and eyes the colour of moonlight. His clothes were different too - a dark velvet suit over a black silk blouse.

Holy crap, he was pretty.

He bowed at me and said, "Good evening, fair maiden."

I found myself gawping at this mythical creature, unable to string together a coherent sentence.

Amusement flickered across his eyes.

"Forgive me, I didn't mean to startle you. I saw you standing there and I was compelled to come and talk to you. My name is Rudolph and I am a guest at the house. What's your name, my woodland nymph?"

"Err... Sophie," I replied woodenly.

"Sophie, what a lovely name," he said suddenly taking my hand and bringing it to his lips. "I am delighted to meet you, Sophie."

He pressed a kiss against my hand and I froze. A man this good-looking should have made me weak at the knees with a move like that - but it didn't. To my surprise, the moment he touched my skin, I wanted to snatch my hand back and dip it in bleach.

I tried pulling my hand away with an awkward laugh. "Um, hi. It's nice to meet you too."

He held onto my hand and studied it with great fascination. "Your skin is beautiful, Sophie. Would you model for me? I dabble in art and I would love to draw you. Let me take you back to my room."

"Oh, well, I'm kinda of busy right now. Do you think I can have my hand back, please?" I replied.

He ignored me and lifted t my hand to his nose and sniffed it. He freaking sniffed it! Like a freaking dog.

He then looked up at me and said, "Your skin is so unusual. It's the colour of caramel and smells like caramel too."

"Okay, you've officially entered serial-killer territory. I want my hand back, now," I said, putting my foot down.

"Oh no, Sophie. I can't do that. I need to taste your skin, I need to see if it tastes like caramel."

"Buddy, if your mouth comes anywhere near me, I'll knock your front teeth out."

He laughed at my response, "A girl with spirit - I like that."

"Oh no, boy, you have got this all wrong. I'm a lady with an attitude and a lethal right hook. You do not want to mess with me."

Rudolph didn't get the hint. He brought my hand to his lips and blew hot air across my knuckles. "Tell me which tropical island do you come from, Sophie?"

"I don't come from tropical island! I was born here, you freak! Now, let go of me!"

"Stop trying to fight me, Sophie. When the wolf sees a lamb, it excites him. Do you want to excite me, Sophie? Do you want to excite the wolf?"

"You're not a wolf. You're a lunatic creeper!"

"I can see you're begging for it," he replied puckering his lips up and leaning towards me.
