“Seriously, Cee, what have you been doing?”

I bit my lip.

Lexie was firing up question after question. She hated the fact that I was sort of distancing myself away from them. I wanted to tell her, but I can’t. My clock had been ticking. And Thanatos was still ahead of me.

“It’s nothing,” I said.

She shot me a worried look. “Look, you don’t have to bottle things up. I’m here for you. Kyle and I are here for you. If someone needs a punch, call me, okay?”

I nodded.

“But promise me you’ll still attend the Halloween ball with me.” She stopped in front of her locker and sighed. “I hate pop quiz.”

“Yeah, I will.” My responses were short, mainly because I was still tired and exhausted. Lexie was fired up, though. This was the first time I saw her wear a dress with style. Usually she wasn’t this prepped up. “Are there any reasons behind your outfit today?”

To my surprise, she shied away. She looked from side to side and tried to hide the blush she had. “Nothing. Anyway, stop changing the topic. You’re still wound up.”

It was true. My stomach still hurts, but it was getting better and better every day. Four days had passed since the accident happened. Four days since I had last seen Eros. Four days since I spoke with Baubo and Tyche. Today was Monday, and they were supposed to train me after school. I need as much energy as I could get. I had no slightest idea as to when my time would be up. I need to be prepared, although it came out as a surprise. Suddenly having the powers to summon souls was appalling. But I knew that this would help me.

Lexie’s red hair was tied up in a bun, and when the three A’s came in to the hallway, she quickly let her hair down. Her dress flowed smoothly above her knee as she leaned against her locker.

“What’s up with that?” I asked her.

She giggled, “haven’t you heard from your brother? They broke up.”

Oh, that explained her outfit. She was trying to get my brother Ach. I didn’t know they broke up. It wasn’t my business. Plus, Ach had been nagging me every minute to stop being so reckless. Our birthdays were a mess. Ach hadn’t been able to get a free time since he kept me company in the hospital. Mom was furious. Ever since that happened, I was never left alone again anymore, and Ach was to deliver me in every class. Jake, my younger brother, was annoyed that mom had to change things. Jake and Ach were forced to sleep in the same room as me. Mom told us that we should all stick together in case an emergency comes. So basically the other two rooms had not been used anymore.
