A Girl I Once Knew

There's a girl I once knew who smelled like mint and patience and something that couldn't be bought in a bottle.
I loved her,
and she was content to be loved.
She was something that I couldn't replace, and I never really appreciated it.

We lost touch.

I saw her again yesterday.
She didn't smell like mint or patience,
she didn't even smell like citrus and bravery or flowers and time or anything really worth smelling.
She smelled like dust.
