"Are you positive?" Charles asked.

Abbey looked at Charles. Could he tell that she was lying?

Abbey slowly nodded her head.

"Yes." Abbey replied.

"Well," Charles started, " first, take a deep breath, making yourself terrified will make it worse."

Abbey did as she was told, and just like that, she felt herself feel better.

"Good," Charles smiled, "I believe that's all you needed." Charles went back to his papers.

"Thank you Charles." Abbey said as she walked towards his door.

"Oh abbey." Charles called after her. Abbey stopped in the doorway.

"Yes?"

"Try to get some rest, you'll need it for tomorrow's training."

Abbey nodded her head and smiled. Then she left for her room.

❌ ❌ ❌

As Abbey sat on her bed, she couldn't help but feel terrible for lying to Charles. Abbey knew she could control her powers, well, at least she thought she could.

As Abbey let some tears roll down her cheeks and onto the comforter, she couldn't help but feel a presence behind her.

Abbey sighed and wiped her eyes.

"What do you want?" Abbey asked as she turned around. She wasn't expecting Alex to be in her doorway.

"Were you crying?" Alex asked as he stepped into Abbey's room.

"Yes." Abbey sniffed.

"At least one person is being honest with me." Alex smiled.

Abbey chuckled.

Alex stopped walking and stared at Abbey. His face had a mixture of confusion and awe.

Abbey smiled and looked at Alex confused.

"What?" She asked.

"You're eyes, they're-"

"Glowing red." Abbey said flatly as her smile dropped. "Yeah, that happens a lot." Abbey blinked a few times and looked over at a nearby mirror. Her eyes were back to her original, hazel color.

"So, were you serious when you said that you couldn't control you powers?" Alex asked.

Abbey looked at Alex.

"Can I trust you?" Abbey asked.

Alex fixed his posture so he was standing at his full height.

"Yeah."

"The truth is, I can, well, I believe I can," Abbey paused, "I just, I don't know what's keeping me from that. It's like I don't want to control my powers, but then I do." Abbey sighed. "I don't know, it's all so confusing."
