What Stays in Vegas

Chapter 1: Two Worlds Collide

*********LARA **********

"Hurry the hell up Kat! You know how airport security is!"

I wait silently in the parlor and look at the interior of the foyer. A foyer? Whats the point? Ive been living with the Stars for about four years now and I have always felt out of place.

Money can buy happiness for these people. Kat comes out in heels and a mini dress works cardigan. I stand in obvious defiance with my combat boots, jeans, white tee shirt, and trench coat. It's a way of life not a fashion statement.

Kat is about 5'5" and stands with a delicate frame. She never forgets to wear designer something and always has too much makeup, jewelry, or both. I would call her a slag if I didnt know her so well. She has blond hair with brunette highlights, I think. It might be brown hair with blonde highlights for all I know.

As for me, Lara Croft, I stand as a gentle giant at 5'9" with a shapeless frame. I guess I'm not good enough to have "a figure" like Kat. I'm straight up and down skinny. My hair falls in perfect curls past my shoulders. My hair is the only thing I like about myself. It starts out with big chunks of curl and works its way down dispersing into many curls. I never do anything to it just brush it. But that's enough about my hair.

I beg for people not to compare me to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. I know this can be very difficult seeing as we are both british. After researching my family, I found that my father was from San Francisco and was a computer game programmer and my mother did the voice of Lara Croft for the video games. She was really beautiful I saw her in a picture once. I wish I knew her. She grew up in Manchester and I wish that one day, maybe, I can meet her family that is remaining there.

"Hmm. Lara? Aren't you forgetting something?" I pretend to ignore her and smoothly put on my aviator glasses over my sleep deprived eyes

"Maybe a special day or something Lara?" Kat stands batting her eyelashes at me waiting for the appropriate response.

"Happy Birthday Kathryn Star!" I say monotonically.

"You don't sound very happy!"

"Kat it's three in the morning and I have already told you happy birthday three times. You are 18 now. We get it."

"Oh you are just tired Lara." She makes a snapping sound with her gum and gets Edward to bring her luggage to the limo.

Edward is our butler and yes, we ride in a limo everywhere. Don't ask why but these people seem to enjoy it.

"Oh I'm so excited mum and pa set up this trip for us!"

"For you.." I mumble

"Hmmm?" she asks with a poised face.

"Nothing Kat. You were saying about Vegas?"

"Oh I'm ever so excited! I get to go to the Bellagio,Paris, Planet Hollywood, and the Stardust! I'm too young to drink anything in American but I can party legally!"

The way she talks just puts me to sleep. "I'm ever so excited!" what are we in 1920? She's the reason that so many other countries have sterotypes of people from the UK.

I remove my shoes and fly through airport security but have to wait for Kat.

"Oh I'm sorry I forgot to take off my bangles!" She takes off her bracelets and puts them in a bin and attempts to go through the metal detector again.

"I'm ever so sorry sir! I left my anklet on!" The boy behind her stands utterly exhausted and so I mouth "I'm sorry" and he laughs. In case you are wondering, Kat is always like this.
