"No, no, no! Mom, you cannot do this!" Louis tried pleading with his mother, though on the inside he knew all his fleeting attempts were useless. Once his mother got her mind set on something, that was it. There was absolutely no changing it, but he damn well could try anyway. "Louis William Tomlinson." The older women spoke to her son in a bold tone, and it was then he knew for sure that all his attempts at pleading were futile. "You will quit being ungrateful this instant. Most people don't get to meet their mate or mates until they're at least in their twenties, some not even until they're in their forties or well into their old age, and not to mention the poor souls who die never getting to feel the joy of finding their other halves. You know what happens to people when they get into those types of situations. Now you're just getting this opportunity handed right in front of you on a silver platter and you're sticking your nose up at it. This is not how I raised you. You should be feeling blessed." She put extra emphasis on her last word.
Louis opened his mouth slowly after his mother finished her scolding, just wanting her to be able to see and understand the situation from his point of view. But he closed his mouth quickly once she put up a finger, knowing just by the look on her face that he'd already lost the last battle of this war. "Not another word Louis William. I want you to go upstairs and pack this instant. Or else when we get to the airport you'll just get on the plane with no belongings." The beta's stern tone and serious gaze left no room for confusion, and it was very obvious to the teenage boy that his mother wasn't bluffing. Muttering a half-assed response he turned around, stomping as he quickly jogged up the stairs to his bedroom, trying to escape from the problem although he knew he couldn't.
Going in his room and willing himself not to slam the door when he entered, knowing that if he did he'd be in a whole other world of trouble with his already irritated mum. Turning around and leaning on the door once he entered, clamping his eyes shut as he slowly slid his back down the door, hugging his knees with a sigh as he began to think. Louis understood where she was coming from, he really did. His mum and sperm-doner, as he liked to call him, were the prime example of what could happen when you try to start a nest with someone who isn't one's soulmate.
Johanna had been young, only eighteen years of age when she'd met Louis father. Convinced that it was love outside of a bond the naive girl had tried to settle down with the older man, getting pregnant at the ripe young age of eighteen with the man's pup, Louis. Flash forward two years later and her 'loving and devoted' husband found his true mate, leaving behind Johanna and baby Louis without so much of the bat of an eyelid. It was a struggle for years, until finally when Louis was six Johanna met her soulmate, Mark Tomlinson, the man immediately taking responsibility of being Louis' father and helping create a proper nest with Johanna. Louis loved hearing the story, loved seeing the genuine happiness in both his parents' eyes even after ten years have gone by. And of course he wanted that one day. Just, he never imaged it would come this early. It was truly unbelievable. Most people had years upon years till they found their mating, and here he is, barely even having been presented for two years and being shipped off to meet his mates. His whole teenage experience crashing down on him, all because of one letter.
Flashback -Four Months
"Louis, be a dear and go check the mail." Louis heard his mum call out while he was lounging on the couch. Almost always being willing to help, he stood up and stretched, grabbing his jacket off the coat rack before making the short track down their driveway to get the mail out of the mailbox. Opening the box he grabbed out the usual stack of letters, going through them as he walked back to the house. Bill, bill, magazine subscription letter, bill, letter of admission? Louis stopped in his tracks when he came across the large cream colored envelope, it being stamped closed with a large navy blue 'S.' Tucking the other mail under his arm, breaking off the seal and slipping a letter out of the envelope.
'Dear Tomlinson residency, I am excited to inform you that your son (Louis William Tomlinson, 17, Omega) is 1 in only 10 percent of teenagers nationwide who have made it through to our Matched program! Matched is a government ran program that has been up and running since the late 1900s. The goal of the matched program is to pair young Alphas, Betas, and Omegas so they can have practice in a nest with their mates before going out into the real world with them. Matched pairings get paired by a long and thorough genetic studying process, one that doesn't work for the average ABO person. Which it is why we take so much care and precautions for the ones who do make it through. Results have shown that Matched pairings have only a 5% bond-breaking ratio, opposed to the regular of this day and age which is 40%. Matched pairings also report that they are very thankful to have been in the program, almost all pairings reporting back that their matings have gone a lot smoother due to the Matched program and the opportunities it gave them.
If willing, Louis will be able to pack his things and come study at the UK's very own Matched campus location, The Scott Institute of ABO Education. He will be dormed with his mates, though separate rooms will be provided for the Alphas and Omegas should they chose not to share a sleeping space right away. On the Scott campus is a variety of opportunities for learning and life, the campus being set up like a college town. There is a high school for pupils to finish their basic studies, and even a community college on campus should anyone chose to stay and get their basics or double major while in high school. There are a variety of on campus amenities, such as a gym, library, cafeteria, and several places of leisure to spend downtime, which also provide employment. The matched mates will be dormed in apartments, just like a young mating would be in the real world. Overall, it would be a great learning opportunity for young Louis, and a great opportunity for he and his mates to get an early start on their wonderful life together. All you have to do is sign the consent forms enclosed, and we'd be delighted to have Louis be part of our program in the fall.
Sincerely, Matched HQ'
Louis cringed as he read the letter, after letting out a quiet but nervous laugh. There's no way this could be anything for a scam. Continuing his track till he got inside, handing his mum all the mail. "This it?" She smiled as Louis handed the stack over, giving him a thank you kiss on the cheek before beginning to go through the letters. Him nodding casually, though his heart skipped a beat. Because he did give her everything. Everything except for one letter, which he kept in his back pocket, then rushing upstairs to hide it inside his pillowcase. Because even though he knew better than to lie to his mum, it was better safe than sorry.
Present -August
Louis had believed he was out of the woods when he'd hidden the letter, since it had to be signed and returned within a month, but all it had taken was one wash day for him to be put deep in troubled waters. He'd come home three weeks later to find his mum sitting on his bed, holding the signed letter with an angry face, though all he could see was disappointment in her eyes. It had been a constant battle ever since, his mum having mailed the letter against all of his wishes. His sophomore year ending, him still unbelieving that she'd actually send him come fall.
But now summer was over, and it was mere days till he'd have to be shipped off to some unfamiliar place, living with unfamiliar people. His mum still standing by her word that he was to go and be a part of the program. Before he knew it there were salty tears streaming down his face, the reality actually hitting him that he was actually going to have to leave his school, his home, his family, everything he'd ever known behind for some bigshot campus in urban London that presented a fake pursuit of happiness. Knowing nothing more of the strangers he'd be living with, or the strange place he'd be staying at besides what he'd read in the letters they sent for monthly updates. Tears breaking into a full on sob as he continued to trail off in thought, a part of his spirit getting crushed as he did.
