"Go for it La," she mouthed, giving me an I-am-gonna-tickle-you-to-death-if-you-don't-walk-towards-the-rector look. I inwardly groaned and rolled my eyes at her as she grabbed my arm and lead me towards the stage.
"Skye! Why the heck did you—" I said.
"I will give you a chocolate bar after school," she cut me off. I relaxed a bit and muttered an "Okay". The things I wouldn't do for that girl (and for a chocolate bar!)
Anyway, seconds later, I was on stage, grinning at Einstein. He handed me a badge and I observed it carefully. Yo man, you don't expect me to wear this piece of metal, dya?
Apparently he did, because he pointed to his own badge that read RECTOR. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Eww, typical non-fashion-minded rectors. (Umm, no offence meant if you like your rector.)
As I finally attached the piece of metal to my T-shirt, everyone began to shout Lana! Lana!, and I suddenly wondered if this wasn't as bad as it looked.
I grinned at the overexcited hormonal students shouting my name.
"Do you want to say anything?" Einstein asked. I nodded, grabbing the mike from his hand.
"Umm, guys, thanks for the votes," I said, trying to sound really grateful."You people are the best. You just made the best choice of your life by voting for me. You'll see, this year is gonna be astounding. And I hope we are gonna have lots of fun together "
Everyone clapped and wowed and yayed and did other totally incomprehensible sounds. Really, what was so great in the fact that I just made a totally dumb speech just for the sake of it? Maybe the answer lay in the fact that they were all starving and wanted to go back to their lunch...

"Don't you just adore me?" Skye asked as we walked back home that day. I rolled my eyes at her as I enjoyed my chocolate bar (yes, she held her promise.)
"I think you are starting to resemble Michael way too much for my liking, Skye," I replied.
Skye stuck out her tongue at me and smacked my arm.
"What?" I asked, batting my lashes at her.
"Seriously, Lana?" she asked, feigning a hurt look." Tell me you don't find my idea wonderful."
I thought about it for a second before answering in a surprised voice:
"What idea Skye?"
"You-" she replied.
"I know,' I cut her off, "I am awesome!"
She shook her head in disbelief.
"Being serious, though," I said, smiling genuinely at her."You are the bestest best friend ever."
Skye grinned at me. "Don't tell me you are being sappy here,"she teased me.
"Enjoy it while you can, young lady,"I replied, waggling my eyebrows at her."You won't hear me speak like that again, especially not about you."
"Not even if I gave you a chocolate bar?" Skye asked.
"Not even with three chocolate bars," I said.
Taking a serious tone, Skye replied:
"But La, thanks for being such a great friend." We smiled at each other and parted ways to go home.

Nobody was home when I arrived. I headed to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of milk. Taking out a box of cookies, I plopped down on the couch in front of the TV. Our teachers had been generous enough not to give us any homework. Might as well enjoy this as long as it lasts,I thought, turning on the TV and watching a movie. As so many other ones, this one had a happy ever after ending. I turned the TV off, disgusted. Life was not like they described it in movies. Life didn't stop when the happy ending was reached. Instead, life went on and on, and one had to face so many difficulties after that happy phase. For instance, such was my family. Behind the united we stand facade my parents gave off, my family was just crumbling into pieces. My mother and father were having regular fights every week, and my brother was never home except at night when everyone was asleep. I was convinced that soon, one of my parents would decide to move out, fed up of life. How could I blame them when I myself was fed up of it all?
Perhaps, that was why I enjoyed being the famous girl of J.K. Academy. It was to hide the despair and anger I felt.
Perhaps, that was why I stopped believing in love.
Perhaps, that was why I stopped hoping for it all to get better.
Perhaps that was why I believed in nothing and nobody, though deep inside me, I knew there was one God somewhere.
Yes, that was why I relied only on myself. I relied only on THE Lana Lindson.
And I hated society for making me see dreams that would never come true...
