~CHAPTER 2~

"So? Who wants to be this year's Headgirl?" the principal's voice boomed through the speakers. I suppressed a yawn and fetched a cereal bar from my bag. Seriously, how could people be so dumb? I mean, wasn't lunch time supposed to be our escape-from-class time? No wonder students ended up ditching classes. Instead of being seated on the comfortable chairs of the cafeteria, enjoying our lunch, here we all were, standing and listening to a man who thought he was Einstein's cousin. You should have seen the way he dressed up: black trousers, black suit, white shirt, and shoes that were so clean that they gleamed in the sun. He topped his 'elegant' outfit off with a red tie. But what made him look like Einstein was his hair, which he had styled in such a way that he looked like he had just received an electric shock. And his glasses! They were the biggest ones I had ever seen.

Arms suddenly shot up at his question. A murmur of excitement travelled through the crowd of students. I watched them all, bored to the maximum, lazily munching on my cereal bar. Beside me, Skye sipped her orange juice noisily. As I was about to enjoy the last bite of my cereal bar, a deafening scream was suddenly heard behind me. I jumped, startled, and let go of the cereal bar.

"Oh crap!" I muttered, picking up the scattered pieces of cereals. Who could that creature be? I looked behind me and saw a white-faced Diana, shaking like a leaf. Her usually perfect blond hair was flying in all directions. She was pointing at something on the floor, clutching at her boyfriend's —Michael—arm. I threw a quick glance at his face, and almost burst out laughing. His expression was that of pure fear. Mrs Oliver quickly walked in, her eyebrows forming into a frown.

"Lana sweet, can you please help me?" she asked. I nodded back at her, whilst heads turned to look at me. I walked slowly towards Diana and Michael, taking all my time and enjoying the moment tremendously. When I finally reached the place Diana had been staring at, I stopped. On the floor was a tarantula, the biggest one our biology laboratory possessed. It was not venomous, and Skye and I had named it Tara.

"Oh it's Tara," Skye exclaimed in an all-too-innocent voice. "Need any help, Lana?"

I nodded, and as we both bent down, she whispered : "Nice one this time, isn't it, La?"

"You bet!" I whispered back. Taking a cardboard from my bag, I gently placed it under Tara. The tarantula kept still, and as I raised it to put it into the container Mrs Oliver had brought, I suddenly feigned a fall. Poor Tara landed where I wanted it to : on Michael's shirt. He immediately took a step back, but it was too late. Tara was already on him. A look of panic flashed across his face, and he began jumping all around, saying "Get this thing away from me!"

In the mean time, Skye and I both acted like we were trying to help him. Seeing that we —genuinely— could not take Tara off a moving boy, Mrs Oliver came and helped us. Two minutes later, what was left of the chaotic scene was a traumatised Diana, a red-faced Michael, an audience enjoying the scene, an out of place Einstein, and innocent-looking Skye and I.

"Miss Lana Lindson," Einstein, a.k.a the rector said. I looked up at him, hoping he would give me a cereal bar to compensate for the loss earlier during lunch. That way, I thought, I won't have to think of a plan to avenge my cereal bar. I mean, NOBODY ever messed with my best friends (Skye and food) unless they wanted to end up in a very embarrassing incident.

"Congratulations, you are this year's headgirl," he replied, grimacing to me in an attempt to smile. My eyes widened in surprise, and I shot a glance at Skye. She grinned at me mischievously, and I instantly knew she had a hand in it all.
