Chapter 19- part 1

"Uhh, well, I." I smile as Niall stumbles on his words. He notices my enjoyment and his demeanor changes. He goes from nervous to confident in seconds. "Its not my fault your arse looks good in that dress."

Niall walks away and I stop in my tracks. How can he go from being a stammering fool to a confident man that fast? Has he always joked like this, but is just now comfortable enough with me? This is going to be a lot more fun and sexually frustrating for me.

The drive to the restaurant is filled with my parents talking to all of us. Brett makes me sit in the middle and I think he does it just to make me uncomfortable being that close to Niall. He definitely knows something. Thankfully Niall keeps his hands to himself during the ride. When we get to the restaurant I am somehow squeezed between my mom and Niall. Since we are at a table I'm not really squished, but I won't be able to talk to anyone else. I order alcohol right away and sip on it throughout dinner.

Most of dinner the focus is on Brett and Niall. That is until Brett brings my name up in the most worst way possible.

"So did you hear that Niall and Jess went on a date last night?" Brett turns and smiles at me.

Niall starts to choke on his food and I probably look like a deer in the headlights. Our reactions are a lot like how they were on our date during the movie's sex scene.

"It was just a friend date. A hang out is more like it, really." I try to say casually.

"That's nice dear. When it's a real date let us know." My mom gives me a sympathetic look.

"Let's talk about Brett and how he got in a fight with Liam." Two can play at this game, Brett.

"I was defending my sister's honor. I would fight anyone who talks bad about you." As Brett says this my mom sighs happily. Well that backfired.

Since I'm use to this I start texting Rae to see if she will be at the party when I'm done with dinner. We start up a conversation and I get so involved with it that when my mom finally gets my attention, she is furious.

"What mom? Why are you so mad?" I set my phone down and she reaches over and grabs it. "What the hell?"

"You are being rude. You never get to see us and when we are finally together you sit on your phone and ignore us," She scowls at me.

"You have said ten words to me since we picked up Brett. You always focus on Brett, which is fine. I am use to it, but I see him everyday I don't need to hear how school is going." I try to reach for my phone, but my mom moves it away. "Mom, give me my phone."

"No. I think you should be grounded from it." She tosses it into her purse.

"That's fine with me. That's the only way we talk so if you have my phone then that means I don't have to talk to you or pretend to be happy to talk to you." I know what I said will hurt my mom and that's why I said it.

"Jess, be nice." Niall mumbles next to me.

"You know, I have a party to get to. I should really be going." I stand up and walk away.

Once outside I realize I don't have a car to drive or a phone to call someone to come pick me up. Guess I will be walking. I don't get very far when Niall runs up next to me.

"Jess, what are you doing," Niall asks softly.

"Going to the party," I say annoyed.

"I think you should apologize to your mom." Niall gives me a half smile.

"Or you can mind your own business." I take a deep breath. "Niall, she ignored me most of the night and I'm suppose to apologize for telling the truth?"
