Today was like every other day, the sun shone warm rays of light through the window, the wind rustling the leaves of the trees that surrounded his house. The distant chatter and cheering of young children had no affect on the sleeping Hylian, very little ever woke him from his slumber.
With the covers draping over his body, wrapping his frame in a loose cocoon, the male named Link stirred in his once peaceful sleep. Nightmares plagued his mind causing him to eventually jolt up with fear written across his face.
Heavy breaths filled the otherwise silent room as Link frantically looked around as if to confirm his safety. Once seemingly satisfied with knowing his location he lay back down, his head sinking into the pillows.
This wasn't the first time fearful thoughts had gotten the better of him, many times he had awoken in a cold sweat and/or trembling like a leaf in the wind. Each time he was shaken back to consciousness he'd try to ease himself back into a light sleep. This time however he was prevented from doing so.
Fading slowly into a pleasant slumber the poor male was woken once again by the brash yelling of one of his village's children.
"Link!" He could identify that voice almost instantly. Talo was the first one to call his name.
"Link!" Malo repeated, mimicking Talo.
"Li-" this voice was Beth's but before she could finish calling his name Link threw his window open, leaning out with a dulled expression.
The group of children flinched at this but almost instantly smiled brightly, stepping forward and staring up at the Hylian. Their sparkling eyes and rosy cheeks left him sighing, his shoulders slumping.
"Link, come out! We want to play!" Talo, the self-proclaimed leader of the kids called out, his hand waving over his head.
Link sighed and slipped back into the room, fixing his top as he did. Being mute was annoying in so many ways, he had no voice to deny others meaning he'd often fall into traps or find him babysitting these kids.
Trekking across the room, the blonde male fixed his hair, his fingers combing through the longer parts to prevent tangles from getting the better of him. His oceanic eyes explored the darkened room, items lay in misplaced areas, chairs lay set back from the table, dishes cluttering the surface.
He tried his best to keep his home tidy yet still he somehow failed at this. Not to mention it wasn't like he could ask someone to help him, no one came to him unless they needed something. That's just the way things went around here.
Opening the door Link stepped out into the cool air, warm sun flooding over him once he was out of the shadows. This earned a cheer from the kids below.
Still in a daze-like state, he missed the first step of the ladder that lead to the ground. Stumbling and fumbling around, the dirty-blonde male barely managed to grab ahold of the ladder and step down the last few steps.
This was obviously hilarious to the young people below who began to laugh hysterically. Their mixed laughter somehow embarrassed, hurt but also entertained him. Their laughs were sweet yet stabbed into his chest leaving him feeling stiff.
Finally on the ground the children surrounded him, cheering and all talking at once. Off to the side Colin, the sweeter but quieter of the group, stood cooing to Epona. Petting her mane and neck, obviously with the help of Ilia. The whole gang was here.
Link sighed in defeat and tried to ease the children. Ilia noticed the hassle they made and strode over, her eyes fixed on Link.
"Good morning Link." Her voice was smooth and sweet like honey laid thickly over her words. Her hands rested behind her back as she swayed in place, smiling playfully as she eyed the Hylian up and down. Behind her gaze it was clear there was some sort of longing, a loving emotion that lurked at the back of her mind.
