The rest of the afternoon went by quick and it's almost time for the party. I can tell that Brett is excited for his first college party. He is trying to hide it though and I don't know if it's because he doesn't want to look lame or he doesn't want to worry mom.

All through dinner mom talks about how proud she is of Brett and I. I try to believe her, but I don't think she could ever be proud of me. I have stayed pretty quiet, because I don't want to ruin the evening with my usual grumpiness when it comes to my family. I love my family and am lucky to have them, but I always seem to be grumpy and cause problems when I'm with them. I'm so different with my friends than I am with my family. Brett saw that today and he will see it again tonight.

"Well we better get going. Louis said we should get there by seven and look it's seven-twenty." Brett lies through his teeth. I don't throw him under the bus though. I just agree with him.

"This day has gone by so fast. I can't believe my baby is in college. I can't believe both my kids are in college!" Mom starts to get teary-eyed and I seem to be the only one uncomfortable by it.

Brett and dad start to comfort her while I sit here awkwardly. I don't do well with my emotions, let alone other people's emotions.

"Alright you kids have fun. We will see you tomorrow morning for breakfast. We usually eat at six, but we can push it back to seven-thirty." My dad smiles at us.

"You want me to wake up at seven-thirty in the morning?" Are they crazy?

"No silly. You should probably wake up earlier to get ready." My dad's smile gets even wider.

Before I can object Brett quickly says, "See you guys tomorrow."

He gives me a little shove to get me walking. We quickly and quietly walk to the car. Once inside I turned to Brett and start to whine.

"I never wake up before nine a.m. I would take night classes before waking up early." I start my car and focus on leaving the parking lot.

"It's one day, you can handle it." Poor Brett he doesn't understand the importance of sleep yet.

"Have you woken up at six a.m everyday this summer just to eat breakfast?" If he says yes then he really is a dweeb.

He nods his head yes and then turns on the radio. He plays with it until he finds a station that plays today's hits.

"You know no one cool shows up to the party until eight or nine, right?" I quickly look over at him.

"I know. I'm not that lame," Brett chuckles. "I could tell that you were uncomfortable so I did it to help ya out. You have always watched out for me so I want to do the same."

"Having you around won't be so bad after all." I quickly smile at Brett and then focus on the road. "What dorm are you at?"

"Rockwell," he quickly answers. "It is over by the soccer stadium."

We listen to the radio as we drive to his dorm. Brett quietly sings along with the radio. I never knew he could sing. What else do I not know about him? Instead of asking I just enjoy his voice. When we pull up to his dorm I realize that he is in the big nice dorms.

"Why are you in the new fancy dorms? I lived in dorms that were literally falling apart." I loved my first and only dorm room though.

"They put all the athletes in the same dorms." Brett shrugs like it isn't a big deal.

They treat the athletes super well here, but I can't complain since I'm in a sorority. I get my own special kind of treatment. If you aren't an athlete, or in the Greek system then Wake Forest University doesn't really care.
