Thor stormed through the hallways of Asgard. His father had called him into the throne room. He assumed to talk about the current problems with Vanaheim. Lately there had been rumours that the Vanir band together to go to war with Asgard. "My son!" Odin greeted as he entered the room. "Father! Have you decided about Vanaheim?" "Indeed, I have" the old man nodded, and a grin spread over the prince's face "Then when will we go there and show the Vanir what it means to revolt against Asgard!" "We will do none of that" Odin interrupted. Thor froze with his fist high up in the air "I have chosen another way of dealing with this situation" "What are you saying, father?" His mind was confused "We are Asgardian. We don't have deal with problems in another way! Why not go there and show them the might of Asgard, so they will never dare to turn against us again" "Just because we attack, we will never have the certitude of them never striking back" For the young prince this didn't make sense. It was unclear why his father didn't want to use easiest way to end this mayhem. "My son, one day you will be the king of this realm and you need to learn that you cannot solve every problem with brute force" Odin smiled indulgently at his son's inexperience. "Then how do you want to treat this situation, father?" "Marriage" This one word caused the young man's mind to turn blank, then work again panicking. "Marriage?" he asked carefully after a few seconds. Maybe he'd understood wrong. "Yes. You are to marry Elain, the daughter of Vanaheim's king, Bjorn. The alliance will strengthen both sides and stop the rebellion" the decision was final. Not so was Thor's "You can't just do that! You can't-" "I can!" The allfather boomed "You may be the king one day but until than I am and you will do as I say" Thor closed his mouth at his father's outburst and the old man calmed himself "Son, I gave you your freedom long enough, allowed you to play hero down in Midgard but now it is time that you become the king Asgard needs" "By marrying?" the god of thunder felt defeated "By saving your people and many lives from a useless war" This actually caught Thor's attention. The whole time he had only thought about himself, about his own future but never had he thought about how this would help his people. Odin felt that his son had understood. "The princess is to arrive in two days"

In the castle of Vanaheim, Elain also was called to her father "You asked for my presence, father?" "Yes" the tall man turned, from where he had been looking out of the window "I came to an agreement with Asgard" "This is a good thing. What is the agreement?" Bjorn looked for a second thoughtfully at his only daughter. She looked so much like her deceased mother "You will marry Prince Thor and form an alliance with the Asgardian house" She didn't speak, only nodded. Not only because she was at loss for words but also because she knew that it wouldn't change anything. A woman has nothing to say in this realm "When am I supposed to leave?" her voice was toneless, and it hurt Bjorn's heart. But it had to be "In two days". Again, she nodded "May I leave now?" He fisted his hand. He wanted to tell his daughter so many things. That he was sorry, having to do this. That it was for her best. Vanaheim still was a world dominated by men and with this she never would be able to bloom. In Asgard on the other hand she could grow. And he wanted to tell her how proud he was of her, of the woman she had become. But he didn't. He couldn't. Instead he just allowed her to go. He sighed as the door closed behind his daughter. Yes, he had been hard on her, but he always just had wanted the best. "You will understand in due time"
