Chapter 14: Step 2| How To Show Confidence

Start from the beginning

Someone's being a gentleman today, that actually surprised me he seems more of the "opens, goes first and screams 'Hurry up!' then closes the door right after you get out" type of guy, I don't know it might just be me.

We rode the elevator to the lobby and walked to the park. My walk there I made sure to keep my head high with my shades on, I also seemed to notice some onlookers and a few low whistles as I walk to the park, Triston a few feet away to "give me the stage" his words not mine. I knew in me I wasn't exactly sure walking with shades on weren't going to help, but somehow it did, giving off a force field type feel.

It was actually a pretty short stroll to the park, so the time I almost walked the through the park gates Triston took longer strides till he reached my side.

"Enjoying yourself" he smirked. I looked up to him since I was shorter lowered my shades. "Of course not, it's awkward especially when people actually notices me, I was usually a wallflower in school." I answered, unable to look right into his eyes.

And this is why I hate attention I can't seem to look at people in the eye. Which brought me to preferring to wear shades.

"Well, your getting attention now, so get used to it. If you need me, my number's in your phone, cause I'm gonna go check out some girls" He said, winking at a girl twirling her hair and smiling flirtatiously.

"Fine." Rolling my eyes "I'm just gonna sun bathe and read a book" I said pointing to my tote with one unfinished book and a new one I borrowed from Sonya. He waved at me with a thumbs up and walked towards the girl.

I laid a blanket on the floor and lied on it, I took out my book and read the page I was on the previous time. She walked down the aisle... I read on, when suddenly I was hit by a ball, it bounced and fell into my arms.I sat up and saw it was a soccer ball.

"Hey! Um can you throw it back!" a guy called out, that voice, I knew it from the time I started highschool and when I left.

I stood facing the nightmare of my dreams. Connor.

"Okay! Here you go!I forced a fake smile, as I threw the ball back to him his eyes balling out as the ball passes him.

"Mel?" I nodded "wow! You've changed over the years haven't you" he said, eyeing me up.

I cringed what the hell is wrong with him! He's freaking engaged.

"Yeah, I guess you can say that" I answered my smile almost breaking. Technically it's only been recently since I, what many say "changed", but he doesn't have to know that.

"How about we go catch up next week. Remember that restaurant we went to on our first date." Connor smiled, his eyes seemed far off probably remembering the past.

Don't cry Mel your stronger than this, he's nothing to you. He's nothing to me! I nodded quickly and practically ran away carrying all my stuff. I have a feeling I dropped some stuff on the way.

When I looked back making sure I'm far enough I leaned on a tree sliding down puffing out air. I've never ran this much since gym class and that wasn't a pretty picture. I continued sitting on the ground my skin hidden from the sun under the tree's shade, the warm breeze flowing by blowing my hair into my face. I try to spit the hair out of my mouth, pushing all my hair back.

Apparently movies aren't the same as real life, like how do the people walk like its nothing then here comes the breeze. Their hair flying back, still smiling their hair perfect and strutting down a sidewalk, excuse me people this isn't a catwalk. I know I'm such a bitter person, but come on who's hair is actually that nice in real life.

Apparently not me.

I stood up from my spot to start looking for Triston. I passed benches children and a bunch of teenage guys checking me out, uh that is just wrong. I started giving up after a few minutes of searching. Hey! Don't judge it's already obvious I'm lazy, I can't go on or I'll suffer.

I took a seat on a bench and took out my book from my tote, I've read a few pages when I saw over my book was a pair of dark wash jeans.

I looked up, my eyes almost popped out. "Um hey! I saw you were alone here so I thought you might want some company." He smiled shyly.

Oh my gosh! This guy is hot, his tight shirt barely hid the amazing planes of his obvious six pack. He was hot but not as much as Triston, yet he's still hot.

I realized I was just staring, I answered "thanks sure, do you want to go walk or do prefer sitting here" I asked my face probably blushing hard.

"A walk seems good" he smiled.

"By the way what's your name" he asked, his smile still perfectly placed on his face.

"Mellana but people call me Mel, how bout you" I asked, nervously looking on the ground.

"Todd, but you can call me Todd" he answered.

"Well, Todd I think I prefer calling you Todd" I answered smiling finally looking up.

"I'm fine with any way."

********************************

Todd and I strolled around the park, and he was actually great company. He listened carefully to every word I say, answers when I ask a question, and smiles at my corny jokes.

"I guess I have to go look for a friend of mine" I said, seeing I haven't seen Triston.

"Sure, I'll help you"

"Okay thanks! He was over there a few hours ago" I pointed to the area he walked over to the girl and started flirting.

"Since it's been a bit long, I think it's best to call him" Todd suggested.

I nodded, and took out my phone from my back pocket. It rang a few times before he finally answered.

"Hello! Triston Morgan at your service."

"Hey Triston it's Mel you ready to go now." I asked.

"Okay I guess it's been too long" he answered, a faint sound of a girl giggling in the background.

"Great! So where are you now"

"I'll just come to get you"

"Okay sure I'm at the place we separated." he said a quick okay and hung up.

"Boyfriend?" Todd asked.

How do I answer that, since I only need to date him in front of paparazzi.

"Yes! Boyfriend" someone confirmed an arm wrapped around my waist.

I looked up to see a smirking Triston looking at a surprised Todd.

Status: Well, I met a guy today- feeling un confident 😓
