The surface web is the part of the internet search engines can index, the part that shows up when you search for something on Google such as a company's website link.
The deep web is the part of the internet that search engines do not index such as the private photos behind an Instagram account.
The dark web is a part of the deep web which is not accessible through a normal web browser such as Google Chrome. You have to you use a special browser called TOR to access it. But why is it so mysterious? Why is it known to be a bad place?
Because it provides great anonymity and the majority of its uses are for illegal purposes such as drug markets, child pornography, and counterfeit services. The legal uses include greater anonymity for journalists, whistleblowers and a chance for individuals to maintain their privacy.
