The Serpent of Pheonix Drop

Zane walked out with the guests as I stayed behind to secretly finish of a few pastries, to my dismay however I wasn't alone. I spot Lilian resting against the door frame. I bolted upright when I heard her laugh,
"I know the food is good but your not an animal". I swallowed,
"What do you want Lilian? To show off how I never noticed a traitor right in front of my own face!" She stood upright,
"I'm not here to gloat surprisingly but rather to ask you something." I let out a feed up noise,
"What could you possibly want from me? I'm the one who has the questions." She clicked her tongue,
"Oh but I have questions as well, however," a small pause, "I'll let you go first since I'm curious." I stalk towards her with a face full of rage. Irene stop me if I go too far.
"What was your business in Pheonix Drop? What were your orders from Zane?" She's taller than me but I try not to let it intimidate me.
"It was simply to help Garroth through his hard times; brotherly love wouldn't you say". Her smirk is rage amplifying.
"Don't give me that crap, Zane and Garroth hate each other from all my encounters. What was your business with Garroth?" She explains and I almost can't believe it. When Garroth came to visit me that day I thought he  was only pointing to not being alert enough or experiencing some fatigue from work but I had no idea Lilian was the reason for it. I know Zane changed since I've been here but it's hard to imagine him a few months ago when he probably won't have cared to see Phoenix Drop burn; with Garorth and I inside. I start to walk out of the room, I got what I wanted; I know that.
"Hey!" Lilian spat, "where are you going?"
"I asked my question, that's all I wanted from you."
"I had a question too you know". I look back at her
"Does it look like I care?" I return to walking out the door when Lilian practically throws me against a wall pinning me there.
"Listen to me," she says ," there's something I have to know and only you can tell me" Her grip suddenly relaxed as well as her tone so I slowly ease my shoulders, she continues ,"Zane made me travel all the way to Phoenix Drop for the soul purpose of gaining a very important item, the final relic to open the Irene dimension." I gasp slightly but Lilian continues, "and I need to know why he dropped all his plans for someone like you....do you love him?" I shake her grip off me,
"That's a bit forward don't you think?"
"It's simple enough for you to understand..don't you think?" She repeats, "do you love him?" I have to dodge the question, she has no right to know our relationship.
"It makes no difference to you" I finally say, "now if you'll excuse me." I'm almost out the door when Lilian ends with,
"Just remember this. He gave up infinite power for you, a bad choice I think, but I doubt it's because he thought Phoenix Drop was a better prize." Our stares are locked onto each other. Lilian seemed surprisingly genuine when she said that, I don't know what to think. Sure I know Zane likes me but him giving up Irenian power for me takes 'like' to a whole new level.
