Song Nanchuan, “……”

Why was Pei Ying so clever now?

When he didn’t answer, Pei Ying pressed her lips together. “So it really was planned in advance.”

Song Nanchuan wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her cheek. “It’s getting late. Hurry and sleep.”

Such a clumsy way of changing the subject made Pei Ying laugh. “Alright, goodnight.”

“Goodnight.” Song Nanchuan kissed her once more, and he didn’t let go of the her hand all night long.

When he woke up this time, Pei Ying was still sleeping soundly at his side. Song Nanchuan was quite satisfied. He watched her awhile and couldn’t help kissing her on the cheek.

“Oh…” And then Pei Ying woke up. Seeing Song Nanchuan beside her, she was taken aback at first. Then a bit shyly, she said, “Good morning.”

“Good morning.” Song Nanchuan hugged her and rested his head on her shoulder. He closed his eyes again.

The sun passed through the white curtains over the window and landed on his body. When she saw the mole beneath his eye, Pei Ying started to get fidgety. (Note: I sort of overlooked this, but there’s a term for moles / beauty marks under and around the eye, which is something like a ‘tear mole.’ Having a tear mole supposedly signifies that you will have a lonely or hard life.)

“You’re not getting up? Don’t you have to go to work today?”

“I’m not going,” he responded lazily.

Pei Ying looked at him and then faintly said, “But I still have to go to work.”

“…” Song Nanchuan’s brow twitched. “Don’t go to work either. I’ll raise you.”

Pei Ying couldn’t help smiling. “How can you support me if you don’t go to work? And in any case, we haven’t finished filming my advertisement.”

Song Nanchuan was quiet for a moment. Finally, he opened his eyes and turned to look at her. “What do you want for breakfast?”

“Anything’s fine.”

Song Nanchuan pushed away the blanket and sat up. He touched her hair and then said, “I’ll have someone send some breakfast over. You should sleep a little more.”

“Okay.”

With Pei Ying acting so lovely, Song Nanchuan’s heart couldn’t help itching. He bent over and gave her long and soft morning kiss. Then he walked out of the bedroom.

Pei Ying didn’t feel like sleeping anymore so she got up to wash her face. After she changed her clothes, Chen Sheng gave her a call.

“GM Chen, is something the matter?” Pei Ying answered.

Chen Sheng responded, “Xiao Pei ah, it’s like this. I didn’t find any roles that suited you, but I found a song that I think fits you quite well. I wonder if you’re interested?”

“Song?”

“Mm. If you think about it, you technically started out as a singer, but after so many years, you’ve only released the one single. You can try singing again.” Chen Sheng explained, “The song isn’t bad. And I got Producer Qiao Yichen to work on it for you too!”

With the mention of Qiao Yichen, her heart thumped.

This famous, golden record producer had worked with her once previously, three years ago.

At the time, she’d just debuted with the girl group, Cute. Chen Sheng spent great efforts to recruit Qiao Yichen to produce their single. And what followed was two 20 year old girls being scolded by Producer Qiao Yichen to such an extent that they started to question the meaning of their lives.

The other member of the group cried during the recording and said that she’d rather die than record with the producer. Meanwhile, Qiao Yichen had this look of ‘I don’t really care, I just want to finish and go’ the whole time. Things eventually blew over.

They ended up changing producers, but Qiao Yichen still left a very deep impression on Pei Ying.

For some reason, she felt compelled to search up the producer’s information back then. And she was completely shocked by his shining resume. While she was looking up his works, she also came across his Weibo. And again, for some reason, she secretly followed his blog.

At the time, there wasn’t a lot of activity on it. He had fewer fans than she now had and he didn’t post often. He would just promote his new work every so often or post some music videos.

The violin tune of ‘Girl in the Sea’ that Pei Ying used for her ringtone was something she’d discovered on his blog as well.

The first time she heard the song, she was stunned by it. Although there was no making up for the (mental) scars Qiao Yichen left on her after their recording session, she still had to acknowledge his musical talent.

After she got to understand Qiao Yichen more, she came to realize that he was right to scold them in the recording studio. They really did sing too poorly. If she had the chance to record with Qiao Yichen once more, she’d definitely sing better.

Who’d have thought that the chance would come so suddenly?

She was quiet for awhile, so Chen Sheng asked, “What is it? You don’t want to sing?”

“That’s not it.” Pei Ying held her phone and settled down. “I want to sing.”

He was just Qiao Yichen after all, right? Why not! She didn’t believe that she’d sing so poorly that he’d scold her like a dog again!
