A poet can be a painter,
A saint, or
A sinner.
A poet can be a liar,
A cryer,
A grinner.
A poet can be a storyteller,
A poet can be a story seller,
A poet can be you
Or me.
And a poet can be a tinker,
A poet can be a thinker,
A poet can be a fool,
But free.
And a poet
May not know it
But a poet can be a jailor
A saviour
A sailor.
Because a poet can tame thoughts that rage like the sea
A poet can make you wonder, a poet can make you see.
A poet can be anything a poet wants to be.
But I'll tell you what a poet isn't.
A poet is not conforming.

PoetryOccasionally, I write a poem that I'm actually not entirely ashamed of. I will post when I write them. I don't delete any poems, so there are definitely some awful ones from when I had lower standards. I suppose that means I've gotten better.
