Candle

Flickering softly, a small, dim light,

Lives it's life inside the night.

Trusting not, yet leading the way,

Towards the greatly unknown day.

A little soldier, it carries on,

Glowing 'til the break of dawn.

It's fragrant scent wafts above,

Reaching out to capture my love.

Burning forever cannot be so,

For this little soldier has to go.

Disappearing into the dark,

The light, as feared, must embark.

On a treacherous journey, you will see,

The light will perish from you and me.

And gone at last, as the darkness rings,

It's last little breath sadly sings;

"Oh all my last reserves are used,

And away I go into blackness, abused.

Only once living again will I be,

Happy at last for eternity."

Just listen real close, watching the flame

That's once again lit; remember the name.

Listen once more as out goes the light,

You'll hear the small echo, fading into the night.
