Chapter Five

Raziel

She let him in. Instead of going through the pain of having to speak of it out loud, she allowed him to slip inside her memories. With his hands on her temples, he closed his eyes and let his being slip away from his conscience and into hers.

He started sifting through her memories, searching for the beginning of the event that landed her on earth and so brutally stripped of her wings. Scene after scene flashed before his eyes. He caught glimpses on his way back to the start. He saw a man, he saw evil filled eyes, and he felt fear. Real unadulterated fear.

Finally, he stopped at the beginning. He saw her as she was walking down a dark and empty street. She seemed so different before the fall. Her aura was almost blinding, her wings were an illuminated white that seemed to cause the dark of night to shy away. She was so innocent, there was no way she could have deserved her fate. She walked with a small bounce in her step, joy evident on her face.

He saw the minute that changed. He watched as the joy faded away until all that was in her eyes was uncertainty. Uncertainty and slight fear. She seemed to sense something in the shadows. Her steps halted and she looked around, searching for the source of the dark presence that had seeped into the night.

The presence of evil saturated the air. He knew nothing good was going to happen. The proceeding scenes flashed before his eyes, one after another. With each horrid memory, his anger rose. Just as her terror grew, his pure unadulterated rage grew with it. He didn't quite know where it came from, but the things he saw that angel do to her brought out the worst parts of him. He wanted to hunt the angel down and end it's miserable and undeserved existence. He managed to curb the rage threatening to overwhelm him and refocused on her memories. He watched as they were discovered and her attacker turned the tables on her. He felt her betrayal as the ones who should have protected her refused to even consider her side. She was immediately condemned. She was then thrown down to earth and stripped of her wings. They left her there not caring if she lived or died. And that was where he found her.

Her emotions. As he experienced what she had been through, her emotions became his emotions. He felt her fear just as if it was his. As he felt her pain, it was as if it was his own. This had never happened before. Usually, when he went into someone's memory it was simply a viewing. He saw what had happened, and if any strong emotions were involved he might sense them. But he never experienced them. They had never been this strong to him.

He ripped himself from her head, determined to demand that she inform him of what this was. He wanted answers. What he found, however, stopped him in his tracks. His little angel was frozen, a look of pure terror, mixed with extreme pain painted onto her face. Tears were steadily creating their own paths down her cheeks. Without thinking he pulled her to him, settling her on his lap. With his arms tight around her he sent her calm vibes. He sent feelings of reassurance to her mind. Rocking her back and forth, he held her. She eventually calmed. Completely spent, her head rested on his shoulder.

"I thought you said I wouldn't have to relive it."

Her voice was a strained whisper, if he hadn't been so close to her lips the words wouldn't have been audible.

"You weren't supposed to."

"It was like it happened to me all over again. I couldn't get away, his hands wouldn't leave me alone."

A broken sob burst from her lips. She seemed to curl even more into his body as if she could merge hers with his and escape all the pain.

He didn't understand this. She made him feel things he never had before. He wanted to protect her, he wanted to make sure that nothing ever hurt her again. She had fallen into his world and sent everything into complete chaos.

"I don't know what's happening. It's not supposed to be like that. You shouldn't have felt a thing, and I should have simply viewed your memory and been done with it. But it was like all that happened to you was happening to me as well."

She continued to shake with uncontrollable sobs. He simply held her as he waited for her to calm down.

"I don't know what this is, but I am going to have to find out."

He was on a mission.

And he would succeed.
