Once he stepped onto the other side, he yelled, "Hey!" so the woman knew she was going to be safe in a mere matter of seconds. So that her predator would know he wouldn't succeed with whatever he was trying to get at.
And as soon as he got close enough, he turned the shady man by his shoulder only to deliver a blow straight to his jaw. It made his knuckles hurt, but it brought that stranger down long enough for Minho to tell that girl to run. But once he laid eyes on her, he feared he wouldn't be able to speak.
Because he knew that face.
She lived two doors down the hall from him and brought him the brand of coffee he liked every two months whenever he ran out. (Full Name) was the sweetest girl he knew and grew to love.
Really love.
This was a sight he wasn't used to, but he had seen it before. Her expression was just absolutely terrified and she shed tears like her life was ending (which, it actually might have been had Minho not been there). Minho once saw her like this when her last boyfriend decided to break up with her over the phone, and she was so convinced he was the one, too.
Well, this situation was a little more extreme, but (Name) wore roughly the same expression nonetheless.
"Go!" Minho mouthed to the helpless woman on the ground, jerking his head violently to his right while (Name)'s attacker was still grounded.
Most of what he could remember was (Name) scattering away hesitantly, worrying if she should help. She finally took off when Minho had to flail his arms in the direction she needed to go, trying so hard not to yell.
He felt a strong grasp on his ankle, and with one swift motion, Minho was flat on the ground. But it was like the pain of that fall couldn't even compare to the feeling of his heart shattering when he saw (Name) on the ground, light lost in her eyes.
Minho'd take as many hits as he had to if it meant (Name) would be safe from harm.

"Ow," Minho winced, flinching away from the warm cloth that pressed a little too hard on his bruised and swelling cheek. "Try a little softer."
(Name) reduced the amount of pressure she was applying and dabbed carefully around his shiner. She winced along with him, as if his pain were hers also. "I'm so sorry," she muttered sympathetically as Minho flinched again. "I didn't mean for this to happen. It's all my fault you're all beaten up like this."
Minho groaned as he moved his sore arm so that his hand could caress her cheek. He'd always wanted to do this, but this wasn't quite how he imagined it would be.
He imagined wouldn't be totaled with (Name) as his nurse.
But all the same, it was good.
"Hey, listen," he initiated, looking into (Name)'s glistening eyes. She looked like she were about to cry. Minho stroked her cheek comfortingly with his thumb. "This is not your fault. You weren't asking for this to happen. The only one at fault here is that man who thought he could get away with assaulting you like that."
He scoffed, retreating his arm cautiously. "Some people in this world are so sick and twisted..."
(Name) continued dabbing, just now realizing that she had been pointlessly holding the cloth against his face. She cleared her throat to disturb the awkward silence between the two of them.
"But," she started, putting the cloth back into the large bowl of warm water. "After I got away... Why did you stay behind?"
Minho sighed, half-chuckling, too. He held up two fingers.
"Two reasons," he said. "One: I already called the police and if I didn't keep him occupied, he'd leave. Two: I just... Really lost control. I don't know what it was, but when I realized it was you he was hurting, I guess something snapped. And I felt like I needed to hurt him to make him pay for laying a finger on you."
Minho exhaled a deep breath slowly to calm himself from his ranting before he grew angrier. He looked at (Name)'s intently focused face.
"Wanna know why?"
(Name) blinked and slowly nodded.
"It's because I really like you," Minho smiled nervously, despite the cut on his lip that he got from the stranger's punch to his face. He was probably wearing some type of ring. (Name)'s eyes widened slightly, and she gasped silently in surprise. Minho took it as a sign to continue. "I don't know for sure if it's love, but I do know that for a while I've been drinking a little more coffee than I usually do so I run out of it quicker. And I've also been working overtime so we get home at around the same time. You're the only one who makes me feel like this."
(Name) was almost frozen. Other than the fact that she was stuttering and trying to say something, only to have it come out a blubbering mess of incoherent sounds.
"Speechless?" Minho asked to clarify the obvious. (Name) nodded, flustered. "I don't know how I should take that."
(Name) didn't answer. She only picked up the cloth from the bowl and wrung the water out of it. And, like she had done moments before, she dabbed gently at his injured face.
Then silence. For quite a while.
"How would we do lunch?" (Name) questioned.
A small smile played on Minho's lips. "I thought I was supposed to be the one to ask you on a date."
"You already did," (Name) stated, gently turning his face toward her so that she could clean the dried blood on his bottom lip. "You saved me."
"It was nothing, really."
"No, it wasn't. I would have probably been done for last night if it weren't for you being nearby."
Minho flinched away from the cloth for probably the third time that night, to which (Name) frantically apologized for.
"Does it really hurt that bad?" (Name) asked, concern written all over her face. "Do you want me to get some disinfectant?"
Minho chuckled a little and shook his head. "No, I'm fine. Now, about lunch... How's tomorrow sound?"
"My break's at 1:00."
"Fantastic."
