"HEY WHAT THE FUCK?" Veronica asked, her eyes glued to the window, "Is that Steve?"

Heather, who had a sleeping Daniel on her lap, gently placed his head on the couch cushion before joining her friend by the window. Sure enough, Steve Harrington was walking up to his house, his face heavily bleeding with a soda can pressed against it.

"What the hell happened to him?" Heather asked, her brow furrowed as her eyes were glued to the boy, "I'm gonna go over there and see what the hell that's about, okay? Stay here with Daniel. I don't want him here alone."

Before Veronica could say anything, the dark-skinned girl was out the door. Veronica groaned and went back over to the couch where Daniel was beginning to stir.

"Was that Heather? Where did she go?" he asked groggily, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, "What time is it?"

"Like three," Veronica answered checking her watch, "She went over to Steve's. He came home stumbling with a bloody face so like, understandable. I'm stationed here to take care of you."

"She knows I can take care of myself, right?"

"Sweetie, you were a mess like not even three hours ago," Veronica said with a laugh.

There was a sound in the distance, from the direction of the woods. It sounded like screaming. Daniel recognized that voice, "Shit!"

"Hey, language little buddy," Veronica chastised, clearly confused as to what had gotten Daniel so suddenly riled up.

"I think my friends are in trouble, I gotta go."

"Aren't those the same friends you're terrified to ever talk to again?" the girl asked, looking even more confused than she already was before. Daniel, however, was already out the door, leaving Veronica to herself in the house. "Boy, am I bad at my job."

Daniel was running through the woods, following the voice of James and Troy. Judging by the direction, it was clear where they were going and Daniel knew that would be nothing but bad news.

By the time Daniel was able to get to the cliff, Troy had a knife to Dustin's face and Mike was on the edge. Holy shit, he thought to himself. How were kids his age capable of being so utterly evil? He hit behind a bush, watching from afar.

It was when Mike had one foot off the edge that he stood up and shouted, "Mike!"

The dark-haired boy turned around and so did James and Troy. James ran to Daniel, trying to grab him, but Daniel managed to evade his grip long enough before James pushed him to the ground. He spat gravel out of his mouth, looking up at Mike, "Don't!"

"Daniel?" Mike said, his brow furrowed. He was about to say more when Troy interrupted.

"Hey, if you don't jump right now, maybe we'll push this little fairy over the edge," he threatened. James grabbed Daniel by the collar of his jacket and pulled him over the edge right next to Mike.
