Valeryie put her arms up, swiftly evading the opponent's punches while mentally imagining the moves inside her mind. She calculated a strike to the man's ribcage before executing a precise takedown and concluded the fight with a decisive blow to the head.
As the adversary lunged forward, Valeryie seamlessly executed the planned moves within seconds. The soldiers around her erupted in cheers for their victorious General until an urgent summons from the King's attendant interrupted the celebration. Valeryie subtly pursed her lips and raised an eyebrow as she glanced at the attendant from beneath her lashes. She visibly sighs and grabs her armour while securing her swords at her hips.
The walk from her current location to the King's tent seemed endless, the revelry around her in this desolate land proved too loud for the aging King's liking. The odors of metal, perspiration, and iron gradually gave way to fragrances of perfumes and delicacies closer to the King's tent.
As she neared the massive golden tent, a prickling sensation crept up her neck, a distinct awareness of being observed intently. Unease gripped her as she turned towards the unseen gaze up the hill in the North side of her, finding nothing but emptiness before her. Despite trying to dismiss it as paranoia, her instincts were rarely wrong.
The moment she entered the tent, all eyes turned towards her. The King's gaze, his vassals, the councilor's - they lingered on her longer than usual, sparking a sense of unease within her. She couldn't pinpoint any recent errors or lapses in judgment that would warrant such scrutiny. Doubts start to creep into her mind. Were they questioning her capabilities? Her expertise? It didn't make sense; she had led the previous successful attack. Yet, the King's restless movements and the mixed expressions among the vassals heightened her apprehension. With a determined stride, Valeryie made her way to her designated seat and settled into it with an air of authority.
"Evening gentlemen" she nods, hoping someday she gets the chance to say 'ladies' in this meeting.
The King cleared his throat as a means to get attention back. She reached for a goblet of wine to momentarily escape the tension gripping her parched tongue. She quickly took a sip of the sweet taste down her throat.
"As we were discussing before, the Tallies outnumbered us, we cannot win against them," the King said."They have marched and surrounded our capital city with about 150.000 men while we are fighting here, fending off the invaders. One wrong move and they will set our home on fire" he took a quick nervous glance at Valeryie before looking at Marshal Kairon, the true master of his army and coincidentally her mentor.
"General Valeryie, in regard to this issue, the Tallies have requested a truce, they are offering an alliance between our Kingdom" he continued.
Valeryie nods in agreement, simply assuming that the King was kindly filling her in on information discussed prior to her arrival. The Tallies are known for their military power and prosperous land. Their large numbers are a threat, and they cannot win against them as they are now so an alliance between the two countries is excellent news. Myhtica, the country she was born in and now serves, is currently under threat from invaders from the South. While their army is strong, their numbers dwindle. The Tallies know they could win this fight by sheer manpower. However, they brought an awfully large number of soldiers to surround the city to form a truce. Why Myhtica though? If they want a truce or a deal that will benefit both countries, why go through all the trouble of imposing war?
While Val is lost in her thoughts, other generals were getting restless in their seats, their gaze fixated on Val. Perhaps the King valued her opinion after all. Time to grab an opportunity she thought.
"I think this is good, my King. Do you want to send me there as an envoy to negotiate?" she looked around and some had the audacity to chuckle, what is wrong with them? Did she hit her head in the spar earlier?
