The not so princess'y princess

"Princess! time  to wake up!" Selena my servant cooed in my ear, I groaned in response. "uuuugh why do I have to wake up so early, Harry and James don't even wake up this early its not fair....". "well princess you know you take longer to get ready than your brothers". "I have a name you know you don't have to call me princess all the time". "alright Anna" Selena sighed while opening the blinds. She helped me get dressed and placed my crown on top of my long brown locks. "do I have to wear a dress its so poofy and frilly..." I said trailing off. "I'm afraid so prince- I mean Anna" Selena sighed smiling as she opened the door for me.

 I was on my way down to breakfast when I heard the sound of something smash echo through the hall behind me. I turned to look at where the noise had come from and saw my two older brothers running down the hall with smiles on their faces. "hey sis!" they said as they bolted past me and down the stairs. I ran to catch up with them while holding my skirt so I didn't trip. "what did you do this time?" I asked smiling as we all stopped. "we *pant* scared Betty and she dropped a vase she was cleaning" James said running a hand through his brown hair. "ooooh mother's gonna be mad" I said as we all started walking to breakfast together. "yeah but technically we did nothing wrong I mean Betty is the one who dropped the vase" harry said wiping the blonde hair out of his face. "who cares I'm starving lets go" I said sliding down the stairs railing, my two brothers doing the same. "ahem" I looked up to see my mother looking at me, a frown on her face. "morning mother" I said nervously smiling at her. " I see you obviously don't care about your own safety Annabelle" she said with a scowl. "I don't want to see you do that ever again, get to breakfast" she spat at us as she sauntered away.

we practically inhaled our oatmeal before leaving to go practice our fighting deep in the forest, if mother saw me who knows what would happen. we have been doing this for five years and I haven't been caught yet, mother dosen't even know I own a sword. I was beating James by a mile when harry started to comment. "James please tell me your letting her beat you" he asked. "sadly not" harry grunted falling on his ass. "that's another point for me" I said proudly scraping another mark on the tree that we were using to keep score. "alright my tur-" harry was cut off by a loud bell chime coming from the castle telling us we had to come home. "ah its fine I'll kick your butt later" he said getting on his horse and we got on ours.

"as you all must know we have been under attack recently and the shortage of men has greatly damaged our chances of winning" my father announced at the head of the table. "which is why you boys will be joining the troops in our next battle" he said pointing to my brothers before James almost choked on his rum. "WHAT!?" they yelled in unison. "that's right boys you'll be joining me and the troops in the morning so practice your sword skills". "but what about Anna?" Harry asked gesturing towards me. "what about her?" father asked. "isn't she coming with us?"James chimed in. "goodness no we cant have a girl on the battle field getting in our way!" my father spat like they had just said the stupidest thing ever. "what!"I said standing up abruptly. "its better if you stay here with your mother you wouldn't last a second out there" he bellowed. "how do you know how long I'll last! how do we even know you'll survive!" I yelled. "Annabelle go to your room right now!" father shouted standing up in his chair. I picked up my skirt and ran upstairs to my room.

"I don't know what father's deal is! why can't I fight with the boys?" I said as Selena sat down next to me on my bed. "well your a princess an-" "TO HELL WITH BEING A PRINCESS!" I yelled throwing my crown on the floor, hitting the ground with a clank. "well even if you managed to get out its not like you can be in two places at once" Selena said hugging me tightly to calm me down. I liked Selena's hugs they were always so warm and they made me feel safe. I suddenly had an idea and jerked up. "but what if I could". "oh I respect your enthusiasm but I'll never be close to a princess" she said sighing deeply. I picked my crown up from the floor and put in on her head,I turned her towards the mirror. "we do share a resemblance" she said touching the crown on her head. "please pretend to be me while I go fight it will only be for two weeks please" I begged her putting my hands on her shoulders. "well I guess I can't stop you" she said pulling me into a hug once more. 

I somehow managed to get my brothers on board with this and they found some old armour for me to wear along with a small helmet that covered the bottom half of my face. I told Selena everything she needed to know before walking outside to get on my brothers horse and carriage. as we were about to leave I saw Selena sneak over to the carriage I was in "I guess this is goodbye"she said giving me a hug. "oh don't worry ill be back" I said giving her a warm smile. "Anna before you go I..." she looked into my eyes as she trailed off. "*sigh* don't die okay?" she said giving me one last hug before standing up straight. "oh don't worry I won't" I said waving as the carriage started being pulled away and Selena walked back inside.

I raised my sword up to my hair and sliced it off piece by piece until my hair was as short as James's which is up to his ears. (cue the Mulan music XD) it wasn't long before we reached the base. the first few days of training were a hassle but I got through it. it eventually came to the day where we would fight the enemy and we were ready as ever.

the sounds of blades on blades could be heard everywhere on the battle field and we were actually winning! but all good things can't last forever. "JAMES!" I heard harry's distressed voice shout. I turned to look "no...." I said running over to the crying boy ditching my helmet in the process. I crouched down beside him. James had been stabbed in the gut,there was no chance of him surviving. "James no please don't die! you promised we would survive this! you promised!" Harry sobbed as fat tears rolled down his face and fell onto the ground before he picked up the top half of his body and cradled him in his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. "hey its okay don't worry about me you go live your life and start a family, I'll always be there for you always.." James said wiping Harry's tears away with his thumb. "I-I..." Harry sobbed. "shhh its alright leave me here, go finish this" James said as Harry pulled him into a tight hug. he whispered something into his ear before James died in his arms.

"Annabelle!?" my fathers voice boomed through the crowd of men around us. I stood up quickly and turned to face him. "what are you doing here!" he said running over to me. "I came to fight with you I'm not helpless father I can fend for myself!" I said glaring at him. "alright be careful okay" he said before running off to continue the battle.

a few days later the battle finally ended and it was time to head home. Harry was still a little shaken up so I decided to let him have his space for now. "father could you not tell mother about this?" I asked him. "what how does she not know you're gone!?" he asked confused. "okay well let me explain".

we finally got back to the castle when everyone was in bed so nobody could hear or see us. I got off the carriage and bolted inside to find Selena. I opened the door of my room and she was sitting on the bed brushing her hair. when she saw me she almost tripped over her own feet trying to run over and jump into my arms. "you're back!" she said hugging me tightly. "didn't I tell you I would?" I said hugging her back. "I have to tell you something" she said looking into my eyes like she did before I left. "I-I like you" she said turning her head away from me. I grabbed her chin and made her face me. I placed a kiss on her lips and replied "I love you too". "aww" I heard my brothers voice behind me say as he walked by.

10 years later

"James come back here and give uncle Harry back his crown!" I said as I chased after my son through the castle. "it's mine now!" he said running down the stairs before he was stopped dead in his tracks. "James give your uncle back is crown" Selena said pointing to Harry behind me. "yes mother" he pouted walking back up the stairs and handing Harry his crown. "sorry uncle Harry". "its okay buddy". (okay I know two females can't physically reproduce but its only a story so deal with it). "you're good at that" I say giving her a peck on the lips. "I try" she said putting her arms around my neck and kissing me again. "what was it you said ten years ago something like, I will never be close to being a princess?" I said teasing her. "boy was I wrong" she said holding my hand and putting her head on my shoulder. "now I get to call you something better than a princess" I said. "queen?"she said stating the obvious. "no......mine".

well I hope you guys liked this story it took me a few days to write and its currently three am right now there are going to be a lot more stories to come and I am happy to take suggestions for stories as well and I am also taking suggestions for characters to be used in these stories so if you want then leave a comment with your suggestion and who knows it might end up in the book of wings. the only people that really read my stories are my friends so there might only be a few in there that were actual suggestions so yeah. anyway I'm going to go to bed and think about what the next story is going to be about. so I'll see you guys in the next one bye!
