Leaving

Before the birds sang their morning song, I woke up at dawn to get ready for my flight to Seoul, Korea. That night I'd stayed with my parents. I was actually simultaneously quite hesitant and excited for the move. The only home I have known is where my family is. My parents and my older brother (b/n), are the people who I've lived and loved with since birth.

But today was the day I'd venture out into the real world, as a twenty one year old individual, legally adult. Well, not entirely true. My overprotective parents have made my brother live with me for the first month of my stay in Korea, then he'll leave once I've gotten the feel of the new town. Which in some way, is nice. I guess going into an entirely new country by yourself can be really scary. But then again having my brother being the one who comes with me? Living a whole month with the most annoying yet lovable older brother a person could ask for. Nonetheless, I'm still grateful to have an amazing family to guide me through my big moving day.

I looked up and saw that it was 6:39 AM. Time flies fast when you're in your thoughts.

"(Y/n)?" (B/n) suddenly said as he opened my door.

My room was completely sucked out of the (curtain color) old curtains and twin sized bed I'd had since kindergarten, the cute drawings from preschool and all that were taken down and shoved into boxes except a small photo I'd kept in my hand while in my thoughts.

"How nostalgic. That picture is so old." My brother laughed and sat next to me. "So, finally moving day. How do you feel?"

"I'm feeling... everything. Excited for a new start in a new country, nervous for what awaits me there, sad because we're leaving mom and dad, happy that we get to go together, sad again because you'll be leaving me in a month." I replied to his question.

"Kiddo, you'll be fine. After a month of living with me you'll definitely be sick and tired of it." He laughed.

"I've lived with you my entire life. I bet I could handle a wimpy month."

At that moment my parents walked into the room. My mom had tissues in her hands followed with quite visible tears forming in the corners of her eyes. My dad walked up to us and hugged us.

"You two are so grown up now. (B/n) you must take care of your little sister. And (Y/n), I wish you happiness in your new journey to a new life in Korea." My dad lectured us.

"Don't forget to drink lots of water during your flight, and make sure you keep your passport close. Please be careful out there. I love you guys." My mom added on.

"We get it. We love you!" My brother and I said at the same time and we all had a group hug. Even though we weren't even at the airport I felt like crying.

We stopped by Panda Express and had a bite to eat before our flight, which was at 9:00. We all walked to the gate and soon we had to say our goodbyes.

We hugged each other and of course my mom started to cry. Even dad started tearing up, which I've never seen him do that.

"I love you guys so so so so much!" I said to them.

"I'll take care of her." My brother said to my parents.

"Flight 1-A to Seoul, Korea is now boarding." The speakers spoke.

"That's us." I smiled with endless tears flowing from my eyes. We had one last group hug, then had a painful, yet peaceful goodbye.

(B/n) loaded my carry on bags in the airplane storage and we found our seats. In no time I had already closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, thinking about everything that was going to change in my new home.
