My ears rang with the sounds of shouting as I ran through the ever twisting halls.
Why did the capital building have to be such a maze?
My mother, better known as "President Harris" was waiting on the information I'd collected on my mission.
Crack!
A shot rang through the corridor as I turned down another hall, my long black braid swinging behind me.
The sounds of voices grew louder with every step.

"Almost there" I muttered to myself.

One more corner...
One more....
One...

I took a sharp turn to the left and ran straight in to my mother's office.
"President Harris ma'am" I saluted trying to stand up straight as I gasped for air.

"At ease Energia" she replied moving her steely gaze towards me.
"What news have you brought me?" She asked, her entire appearance looked as though she already knew.
"The Rebels have taken over 2 bases and are attempting to infiltrate your office now ma'am." I said, keeping my green eyes focused on my reflection in the glass above her desk.
When did I get so old?
Black lines that looked like claw marks were tattooed above and next to my left and right eyes.
"I will draw them away from your office ma'am, this will allow you time to escape. I have set up two officers at the end of the hall. They will take you to our new, safer, better capital building." I slowly lowered my gaze to meet hers. She seemed perplexed.
"How is it that you do not have the safe mark on your wrist yet you remain so loyal to me?" She asked motioning to the triangular shape on the wall that stood out amidst the dark office.
"Blood is thicker than water" I replied.
She understood my analogy and sent me off.
I ran towards the yelling and pretended surprised to see the rebel's standing in what was left of the hall. I sprinted across the rubble as they chased me.
They were being drawn further and further away from my mother, and they would never catch me. That is just how I liked it.
All their voices blended as I ran. I was focused on completing my mission and nothing else when a shot rang out causing my to fall.
I touched my side and knew I was bleeding.
Maybe I could loose them in the darkness of the night.
I forced myself to stand, and tried to run, but another shot rang out causing me to fall and stay down, lest I be killed. "Stay there Energia Harris, unless you want to be shot again," a deep voice said, "but this time it'll be in the head."
Metal touched the back of my head and I looked down to see my side and leg bleeding.
If I could get to a doctor they wouldn't be fatal, but I could still bleed out at the hands of these rebels.

To be continued....
