After writing, erasing and rewriting, I gave up and in frustration I threw a pillow across the room. As soon as I did that, suddenly a siren went off. It's screeching, annoying noise was going off so loud I jumped in surprised as I covered my ears. What did I do? I wondered. The siren sounded too loud for this to be in my room.
In a quick movement, I placed my notebook in my bag and ran towards the window opening it. I was right. This siren wasn't going on in my room. It was going throughout the whole campus. What was going on?
Come on think!
Okay, one siren: earthquake. Two sirens: fire. Three sirens: lockdown.
I counted the screeching alarms to make sure what it meant. It definitely wasn't one. Possibly two but I don't see any smoke from up here. What if it's-?
I heard a loud bang from down below in the dormatory lobby. I shivered and made my way towards the door. I could feel myself turning pale. I need to leave this place now. I can't stay here in my room or else I will be discovered. Silently, I opened the door and tiptoed out my room. I made sure to leave my door closed to make it seem like no one was there.
I heard loud footsteps coming up the stairs. Scared as I was, I quietly ran towards the elevator hoping it would take my down without the person ever noticing. I turned around for just a quick second, noticing the quietness around me.
Until I felt a hand over my mouth.
I had the urge to scream only no sound came out, as if I were gasping for air. I felt as if someone had tazored me and my legs could no longer move, barely even breath. I was shaking so bad since I have never experienced being more terrified than I was now.
I felt a warm breath on my neck, steady but cautious as if every breath counted. I could feel their heart beat fast, but I was pretty sure mine was increasingly beating faster the more we stood there. Silence was all I heard, besides the sirens, but it wasn't as comforting as it used to be.
We stood there after what seemed like minutes even though it was a matter of seconds. Their deep, hoarse voice then whispered something in my ear that I could clearly and mentally never forget the sound and the way they said, "Run."
In one gesture, he turned me around, grabbed my hand, and ran to find an exit from the building. I had no time to think about what had just happened because before I knew it I was running with him. We were making a lot of noise in an empty dormitory since the only sound echoing was our foot steps and the three sirens. Next thing I know our foot steps are then met with another's, which I could tell was not far from us. Someone was chasing after us.
I wanted to know who was chasing us, but at the same time I thought running sounded a whole lot better. I focused on where we were going. It was obvious that the blonde boy, who I still haven't seen his face yet, had no clue to where he was headed to, so I thought I should help him.
"Left!" I yelled. And he turned left.
"Stairs!" And down we went.
"Right!" But this time he turned left, ignoring my instructions.
"Did you not hear me?" I yelled to him. If we went left that would have led us to the front enterance.
"I know where we're going!" I'm sorry did he just say we?
Next thing I know we're running towards the back exit of the dormitory, next to the woods. The boy yanked my hand towards the woods as if he finally knew what he was doing. I had no time to ask questions or even air to breath, but I followed the mysterious boy anyway.
Together we followed the faded trail that led towards the city, but next thing I know he makes a left and yanks me towards his direction. We were off the trail and heading our own direction and I had no idea where that was. By now I can barely hear someone behind us, and of course I'm still scared for my life. At this point I was willing to do anything what the boy was making me do. My life was at risk.
After we ran for what seemed liked hours, I could barely see something that looked like a road. It was a road actually, a dirt road and right on it was parked a nice black Mustang as if it were waiting for us. I suddenly started to rethink this situation.
Once we reached the road, we heard gun shots. "Get down!" He shouted as he got behind the Mustang using it as a shied. I did what I was told and got down. I noticed the boy took out a gun of his own and started to fire back.
"Get in the car!" He instructed me to do. I was so tempted to yell "No!" because I was not about to get into some car with a stranger, even if he is saving my life. Before I could argue, he opened the car door and shoved me in. Rude. I heard two more gun shots before the mysterious boy got in the car.
"Seat belt!" He warned as he stepped on the gas pedal and the car jerked forward. I almost hit my head against the air bag and quickly put on my seat belt. The car swarm quickly through the dirt road, leaving a cloud of dust behind us as he drove. He was slowly hitting speeds in the high eighties.
I wanted to say so many things and I think he noticed because he didn't even have to turn to look at me as he dictated, "Save it."
Too stunned by everything, I looked back too see if anyone was following us, and thankfully there wasn't. I was safe in this gorgeous stranger's car who I don't even know their own name. I wanted to hop out of this car so bad, but I noticed that he locked the doors and also had a gun. I'm suddenly feeling scared again.
I started to take detail of this stranger boy. He had golden yellow, wavy hair that I would have never imagined a color like that existed. Deep blue eyes like the ocean with little hints of green in them. His face looked serious, but in a way definitely what I'd call sexy. He seemed like the kind of person who mostly had a smirk than a frown. Right now he looked murderous, far from rainbows and unicorns.
He skids the car into the highway, the direction opposite from the city, leading deeper into the northern mountains.
I had to say something. This silence was scaring me and the fact that were going the opposite direction from the city. Is he going to ditch me? Rape me? Oh my god, he's going to kill me. Fuck, I'm going to die without ever telling any one of my friends good bye. What if they never find my body? Who'll get invited to my funeral?
"I'm not gonna kill you."
Stunned, I looked over at him with wide eyes. Did he just read my mind?
He looked over making eye contacted with me for the first time. Whoa, those are very blue eyes. "I had a feeling that's what you're thinking, and no, I'm not gonna kill you."
I rubbed my arm as I leaned against the door. "Are you gonna rape me?"
I swear the car swerved a little as if he lost focus. He shook his head as he started to laugh. "No, I'm not going to rape you."
His humor wasn't making me feel any better. I sat up and looked at him seriously. "Then what are you gonna do with me?"
He turned and looked at me dead in the eye as if he were testing me. I didn't break eye contact, which made him realize that I was being serious. With a long sigh he replied, "I'm taking you home."
