"You were beautiful with your bump," he told her as he turned to her. "I wish I could have been there Love," he whispered, taking her hand back in his.
"What's done is done," she told him with a shake of her head as she took her hand back. He realised that it would take a lot of work for them to work through this ordeal. To heal that which had been broken.
"Did you have a difficult pregnancy?" he asked her as he watched her pregnant form in the pictures. She'd been stunning, dimples more pronounced. The pregnancy glow all over her face, but he could see the sadness in her eyes, despite the smile on her lips.
"I used to imagine you being there at those moments," she told him as she looked at the picture of the baby shower with a fond smile and tilt of her head.
"I shouldn't have but I couldn't help myself. What it could have been like if had gotten to share this like any normal couple," she told him with a sad smile and deep sigh. Answering his unspoken question. Their eyes locking and they realised that the chemistry they had in Greece was still there between them. They could still feel each other's mood, almost read each other's mind.
it had been the thing which had made everything happen so fast between them. She'd told him about her past and he'd held her as she told him about what her father had done to her. They were never apart, always together, no matter what they did. Their holiday romance had been such a whirlwind, things happening so fast. The realisation that nothing had changed between them. The chemistry and their bond were still the same. It made her heart beat that tiny bit faster if that was even possible.
In the meantime, he was thinking the exact same thing. He wanted to reach out and kiss her senseless. Tell her he still loved her, wanted them to be a family together, grow their family together. But he knew what a hot head Kate could be and she'd probably have him by his balls sooner than he had the chance of kissing her. He'd have to take things slow.
"Mummy, can you read me a story?" Arthur asked them, interrupting their little moment. "After dinner bud. I need to make dinner," she told him.
She could see his eyes moving over to Glen before looking back at her. Nodding slight, she knew what he wanted to ask. Maybe he could get to know his son a bit better. It couldn't hurt anything right for him to get to know his dad.
"Can you?" Arthur asked Glen, twisting his leg a little. So much like his mother. A filter that wasn't completely there and tended to regret things afterwards when he'd said something. And right now after his earlier outburst he probably wasn't too sure if Glen would want to read to him. He could see the smile on his mum's face though as she looked at the strange man.
"Of course," Glen replied a bit hoarsely as he turned to Kate for permission. She nodded her head at him as she turned around to continue making dinner for them. He headed towards the couch, his son walking beside him. Settling down on the couch Arthur got on the couch and settled against him as he opened the book he'd been handed. his one arm around his son as he soaked the moment up. A sense of peace and belonging crashed through him as he gave his son a small squeeze with his one arm.
Arthur may not be aware of it at all. But he certainly knew and it made him even more convinced to make this work.
He started reading the book about the baby dinosaur on an adventure. Throughout the story, he could feel Arthur leaning into him more and more and Glen couldn't help but smile or place a small kiss on his head.
"Dinner is ready," Kate called out from the kitchen as they headed towards the dining table in the kitchen.
"Mummy, when will I get to play the piano again?" Arthur asked her as she cut up his fish and Arthur held up his hand in the cast. "Not for a while bud," she told him, kissing the top of his head as she gave him a small smile.
Thomas was a brilliant school, with lots of diverse courses and themes. One of the reasons that both she and Kate had decided on the school. It was the best school offering the best start for a child. Focussing on all aspects of life instead of one or two. It had been overwhelming at first, but they loved going to school.
"You play the piano?" Glen wondered in surprise that he would play an instrument at four and a half. "Yes, Miss Adams teaches us in Music school. She's teaching me and George to play the piano. Mum let me pick what I wanted to do." Arthur told him and he couldn't help but smile at his son as he displayed the enthusiasm for playing an instrument.
"He's quite eager to learn the piano or basically anything at school," Kate informed Glen with a smile. "What does his school offer, outside of that?" he asked her, truly interested in anything to do with his son and Kate. He needed to know everything about them, he needed to know about all that he had missed.
"I'll give you the curriculum for this year and the next. It's truly a brilliant school," she informed Glen as he nodded his head. When dinner was done Glen had insisted on clearing the table as she went to bathe Arthur who was getting sleepy.
"This is the curriculum," Kate noted as she handed him the printed and bounded book. Arthur bathed and dressed in his pyjama's was sitting on the couch, watching a cartoon of Fireman Sam.
"When does he go to bed?" Glen wondered as he watched both Kate and Arthur.
"School days at Seven thirty and weekend at eight, sometimes eight thirty depending on my hours. I need to get a new nanny but I haven't gotten to it," she told him as she watched the clock, noticing that he had only ten minutes left of watching his cartoon.
"Anyway, I'm going to tuck him in and read him his bedtime story. Just take something if you want to drink," she told him with a small dismissive wave as she headed towards her son.
"You want to say goodnight to Glen?" Kate asked Arthur as she stopped at the table where Glen was sat. "Goodnight," Arthur said as he tiredly rubbed his eyes.
"Goodnight Flynn." Glen smiled as he gave him a kiss on the cheek.
