1 December (morning)

Dear diary,

The sky's overcast, it's freezing cold and I am in a bad mood, considering that exactly 16 years ago my parents died. I still remember that day vividly, that day is burned into my memory.

My parents and I were going to the bank to open a savings account for my 10th birthday, which was in 3 days. Everything was going smoothly: we were waiting in a queue and I was complaining about that bitch Melissa who had purposefully eaten my favourite cookie, a chocolate chip cookie. Nobody touches my food!

Suddenly, a guy with a mask walked in and started shooting...

My father was shot in the head and died immediately, while my mother was using her body as a shield to protect me.

When the shooting was over, I thought my mother and I were going to make it. Then I saw she had been shot in the stomach. They brought her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her wound.

Even though it happened such a long time ago, I still feel tormented by this occurrence. So, I have taken the day off and will go visit my parents' grave in the cemetery.

1 December (afternoon)

Dear diary,

Did you know the brain has a mysterious capacity to sense what's happening around us, even if we aren't actually 'seeing' it? Because your eyes pick up on more than you know; it detects things far beyond our conscious gaze.

You know that feeling, when your neck stiffens and tenses, a tingling sensation begins to spread and you just know you're being watched. I had that feeling today when I deposited flowers on the tomb of my parents.

I know what you are thinking. Isn't it logical that you feel uneasy at a cemetery? No, it isn't. I spent almost my whole youth here. The looming atmosphere doesn't bother me at all. After school I always went here to make my homework. This time the cemetery felt different, it felt uncomfortable.

I looked around to find who was watching me, but I saw nobody. At that moment, I felt like in a horror movie, when the main character hears strange noises and wants to go to investigate. You keep telling them not to go and run away as fast as possible however they are stubborn and still go and get killed. Luckily, this wasn't the case when I looked around. Nothing happened; you could only hear the wind howling.
