Mindy sighed as she ruffled her hair in frustration. "Why must the summer end" she sighed gabing her backpack.
She didn't want to return to school, pretty girls talking her down, boys ignoring her and her only friend only hung out with her in secret. She had amazing grades and could honestly probably be taught from home.
But she could hear her bothers words in her head "it might not seem like it now, but I promise these are the days you'll want to remember" he would say.
"Don't miss them keep yourself open" his words echoed in her head.
Mindy gave a bittersweet smile and exhaled standing before her front door. With determined eyes she opened it head high. "I can do this" she said after getting down her steps she through down her skateboard and headed to school.
Steve stood hanging out with Nancy, Tommy and Carol by their lockers. He had a bit of a frown on his face, he hadn't checked to see if Mindy had even gotten back from her annual trip to Hawaii over the summer.
It was getting close to the bell ringing and he hadn't seen her anywhere.
"Hold.The.Phone....who the hell is that?" Carol asked.
Tommy smoothed back his hair "mine in a few days, she's the butter" he said. "This year seems promising two bodacious new kids this year?" Said Carol.
"Oh my god what are you too gossiping about" Steve said turning his attention away from Nancy.
Mindy spoted Steve but she knew the rules, and rule one was never come up to him when he is with his other friends. Mindy sighed and walked by without so much as glancing that way. Her heart felt heavy and she felt stupid. If she wasn't so hopelessly in love she wouldn't even still be his friend.
"Is that?" Nancy asked as the group turned to watch the girl head up the hall.
"Mindy?" Steve questioned with large eyes.
Against her will Mindy looked over her shoulder at him. Her eyes seemed unfased by the others. But Steve swore he could see a hint of sadness as she turned her head around and walked away.
In her first class Mindy found herself sitting In front of a face she'd never seen before. As she went to her desk his eyes met hers, eyes as clear as the sky.
He didn't look like anything Hawkins could pop out. He gave her a lopsided smile that had trouble written all over it. Mindy rubbed her arm awkwardly "geez, he's beautiful" she thought while unpacking her binder, text book and pencils.
"Whats your name little sister?" He asked. Mindy dropped her pencils across her desk loudly as he startled her. The guy chuckled and Mindy blushed. "Mandy no I mean Mini no I mean...hold on just a sec-" Mindy took in a deep breath and calmed herself.
The guy waited quietly with a closed amused smile on his face. " Mindy..." Mindy sighed with a awkward smile. "Real smooth Mins" she thought kicking herself mentally. The guy chuckled and brushed back at his dirty blonde messy faux mullet. "Names Billy" he said, his deep voice full of confidence as he eyed her up and down.
