11th String - I Could Probably Do Better

Start from the beginning

Clark shrugged, "Jesse insisted that we call you."

I frowned, "And you couldn't just call Johnny in the first place instead of making me come all the way here?"

Realisation dawned on his face, as if the thought never crossed his mind. Stupid lad.

"And, as often as the sun rises, I am right and you are wrong." Clark said in a sing-song voice before a smirk appeared on his face.

I glared at him, the lump in my throat made it impossible to speak.

I was wrong. I can't bloody believe it. I was wrong.

Clark doubled over in laughter when Johnny started singing again. That little devil. I knew I should've trusted my instincts. That demo was too good to be true. Damn it.

Note to self: Never make a bet with Clark again. Especially about music. His freaking forte.

My pathetic excuse for a best friend tsked and my eyes shot up, sending him a look that could kill. "Jade, I know this is a huge blow for you but you can't always be right. Now, be a good loser and accept the fact that you've lost," he said mockingly, "For the millionth time," he added with that ever annoying triumphant smirk and I felt the need to slap him silly.

"Fine, you big-headed plankton," I spat, "I hope you step on a lego," I muttered begrudgingly while crossing my arms and glaring at the carpet.

Clark laughed like the devil he is. A demon's spawn I tell ya.

"That's enough Johnny," he spoke through the mic and the eighteen-year old did as he was told.

A smile plastered on his face, "What do you think?"

Clark entered the booth and gestured Johnny towards the piano. I guess he decided to ignore the boy's question. Johnny complied and Clark handed him a sheet of paper which I assumed is the music.

Not sure what I'm supposed to be doing anymore, I spoke through the mic. "Can I go home now? I'm really tired," I said, a wave of exhaustion suddenly hitting me. Man, being wrong sure tires me out. It hasn't happened in so long so it really took me by surprise.

Clark sat down on the stool facing me, "Can you wait for a few more minutes?" he asked and I thought for a moment. I really wanted to sleep.

"This won't take long, I promise," he added after seeing that I was about to say no.

He was looking at me through the window, begging me with an expression that made my stomach churn. Damn it Clark.

I sighed, "Fine."

He smiled and it knocked the breath out of me.

It's funny how a minute ago, I wanted to rip his throat out for rubbing in my face the fact that he was right. Now, I felt like I could stare at him all night long and not mind even though I would probably pass out in a few hours because I really was tired.

Gosh, I've got it bad.

He wore the guitar strap around his torso and cleared his throat. With a signal to Johnny, he began playing and the piano resounded throughout the whole room, filling my ears and making me more sleepy.

Then Clark sang.

No I don't got money

But I got the time honey

If you'll for me to turn this all around

My eyes shot up and the feeling of sleep completely left my system. I took in every word that came out of his mouth and analysed it, trying to think of a reason why it made my heart thump like this.
