"You know how hard it was to get pregnant right out of university? I was all alone, not even my family know who the father of my son is. I called you one last time the day he was born and every one had left. I told them I had your son and gave my name and information and Arthur's name." she told him with reminiscent and hurt tone, the hurt was still so big even after all those years.
"They told me you refused to talk to me, so I took the hint," she told him, her voice bellowing off the walls of her office as she tried to hide the hurt she'd felt at that.
"So don't you come in here, demanding to know where my son is or why I never reached out." she glared at him through gritted teeth as the door to her office opened. She noticed Maria standing there with a worried look on her face. George and Arthur on either side of her.
"Do I need to get security?" Maria asked her as Kate shook her head in a reassuring way. A smile on her face as she looked at her son. "No it's alright Maria, thanks for dropping him off." she thanked her as she waved it off as she usually did. Whenever Kate wasn't able to pick him up, which was pretty much all the time, either Kate, Will, Carole or Maria would drop him off. Or there had been several occasions where she picked them up and dropped them off when she could. there were times when she had to work late that she'd go and pick him up from KP as well.
"If he's bothering you, remember what William told you." Maria reminded her of the day he made her swear to tell him if anything happened or if someone bothered her. Harry and Will were the big brothers she'd never had. There were times when they called her the little sister they never had.
"I will tell them not to worry," Kate assured her as she headed to them and crouched in front of her son before giving both him and George a kiss on the cheek. "Bye aunty Kate." George waved at her. "Bye little monkey." she grinned at him as he let out a small giggle.
"Why were you yelling at mummy?" Arthur asked Glen over her shoulder as he had his hands on her shoulder. Kate picked him up, careful of his cast. "Is this man being mean to you mummy?" he asked her as he cupped her one cheek in his small hand as she looked at Glen.
"It's alright little man. Why don't you go and see Andrew in the lab?" she suggested, kissing the side of his head. "He found a new baby dinosaur this morning," she told him as an excited grin grew on his face and he immediately started to wiggle to put him down. "Be careful, you know the rules," she called after him as she watched him run off in the direction of the underground hallway. The one that led to the building next door where the storage, labs and such were located, both above and underground. Kate was sure that he knew the museum better than some who actually worked there.
Glen, on the other hand, couldn't tear his eyes away as he laid eyes on their son for the very first time. God, he was so grown up already. He'd missed four and a half years of his life. He couldn't help but smile as he noticed the protective streak in him when he asked him if he'd been mean to Kate, his hand cupping his mum's cheek. he could see the bond that they shared and the undying love they had. He couldn't help but get emotional at that, at the desire of being a part of that. The desire of wanting to get to know the young boy which was his.
"I want to know him." A soft voice said behind her as she smiled in the direction in which Arthur had left off.
"No." she immediately said with a shake of her head, before she turned around to face the father of her child. As far as she was concerned and despite how much it hurt, he was just a sperm donor in this case. She'd raised her son all on her own, sure with a lot of help from her friends which were all people she'd gotten to know through Catherine.
"You don't have any right to come back after five years and demand that you get to know him. Especially when you made it perfectly clear that you didn't want anything to do with us," she told him with a certain tone as she rounded her desk. She wasn't going to do this. She wasn't going to let herself and her son foremost get hurt by the man that she still loved. How could she still love him? But she felt it the pull towards him in her chest.
