39. Stealing pain

Start from the beginning

"But your not dying today." Jace walked up and I stood beside him. "We know where Madzie was taken. We just need to pit stop by the Jade wolf." Clary, Jace and I walked hand in hand through the wall appearing outside the boat house infront of the restaurant. Clary was the first to run inside and greet Luke.

As Clary walked towards the boat house I heard a growl and suddenly saw a wolf being fought off by Clary with a paddle. I knew that fur...but where? Clary sent the wolf sailing as Jace ran up and I lifted a brow.

"I guess me teaching you baseball wasn't a complete bust." I chuckled at the memory before shaking my head, I was supposed to be mad at her.

"Show yourself." Jace commanded hold a sword towards the cracking of bones before Maia stood, bare body as she looked to us.

"Maia?" Simon asked before I imediently took off my jacket and tossed it to the girl.

"Look, we all know about the sword." Maia was handcuffed to a metal piece of equipment while Luke, Jace, Clary, Simon, and I stood around her. "Clary has to die." She said and I rapped my foot.

"Why not me? I have the same blood she does, why not go after me?" I asked curiosity sparking in my head.

"Because you've shown me kindness all you do is for the downworld when you see injustice." She said and I looked to the others.

"They do the same." I pointed and she shook her head, getting back on topic.

I felt my heartbeat slow as the black skin traced up my arm further making me bite into my lip. Clary's arm was starting to looked a darker grey, the spell taking effect on her as well.

"Are you okay?" Simon asked the two of us and I nodded, not releasing my bottom lip from my sharp k-9s. I may not be a vampire but two years ago I was supposed to have the sharp points filed to a more blunt shape.

"I-I'm just going to go warm up the van." I busted out before anyone could stop me and I rested my hands on my knees letting silent sobs rack my shaking body, earlier I had gripped Clary's wrist for a reason. I had directed her pain into my own so that she could survive if I died. A small price to pay for the loss of her mother, which was my fault. The words still haunted my dreams.

"Coco. Alexander. Library. Malt whiskey." I whispered to myself and heard someone walking beside me.

"Your using C.a.l.m.? You haven't used that since you got sent to detention, Well, the multiple times you got sent to detention." Simon chuckled and I took comfort in the familiarity of someone who had always been here. Maybe not always for me but always was here.

"I'm not a bad kid.." I trailed off reciting the words I had spoken when we first became friends. "I just do things I shouldn't."

He chuckled as we relived the conversation. "Well I think you could have been a ninja in your past life." He said.

As Luke walked away from the werewolf locked in the small space I sighed. How much was I going to regret this?

"Maia I know why you did what you did." I whispered hearing her stop. "The vent with the fam on the back, if you stop it and manage to break it off I accidentally broke the window earlier." I left before she could reply, I knew what t was like to be second choice for fatherly love growing up in the Fray house. Luke was never mean, but I could tell that his first choice would be Clary, now I knew it was because I was a fake Fray.

Wincing, I headed outside back to the van where Clary Jace and Simon were waiting. I sat in the back spacing myself away from Clary. After being her twin for years I knew I couldn't be mad at her for long.
