on the right upper right hand side of the timeline window, just under the x, is a little down arrow with four lines next to it
click on that and then select "make frames from layers"

you have to now delete all frames that are not part of your gif
to select multiple frames, hold down control and click each frame.

so currently all we have is our gif.
click on the first frame of your gif, scroll to the end of the timeline window, hold down shift, and then click on the last frame of your gif to highlight all your frames
now here comes the tedious part
you have to go over to your layers window and click the little layer visibility eye for each and every layer so it'll show in your gif
note: if you have a folder you have to make the folder visible and then go into the folder and make each layer visible as shown below
