The Call of Nature

Remember that wonderful view,
-The one with the mountain tops
And bare tree and the garden crops-
You saw the other day?
Well it's gone,
Covered up by the gray.
It is a fog
That conceals everything in its wake.
It soars, it plunders,
Puts all beauty at stake.
The cold is just enough
To remind me to feel
The goodness of the earth,
The time to heal.
This gray looming
Over my head will soon pass.
It's just a matter of time,
I know it won't last.
But the darkness
Draws nearer I fear,
And yet,
You are still here.
You're so inviting,
My soul is igniting.
I'm on the edge,
So close to discovery;
You could be where
I find my recovery.
But you are an intimidator,
Vast and endless and unpredictable,
And yet
I find myself drawing nearer.

You leave wet kisses
Upon my exposed flesh,
But you are cold, so cold.
I breathe you in
And you're so fresh,
But your whispers still seem untold.

I can tell
That you're trying to speak
And yet
I am not hearing a thing.
I want to listen
To what you have to say
But it isn't easy
With the intruding gray.
I'm still finding myself,
It's just a process.
The gray that hovers
Just adds to the stress.
But I'll get it one day,
And I'll be the best me.
You just hold on,
Just wait and you'll see.
