I'm called Ember, but now I go by Erika Wayland. I was a Sentry claimed by the sun, consider me a Sentinel of Light. Or, I used to be a Sentinel of Light until I disappeared. You might be asking why I would want to give up such an honor, but let me explain something to you.

Sentry's are beings of higher power, claimed by either the sun or the moon. If a Sentry is claimed by the sun, they become a Sentinel of Light. Same goes if a Sentry is claimed by the moon, only exception is that they become a Sentinel of Dark. No matter what you are claimed by, you help restore the balance of good and evil, the balance of light and dark. The Sentinels of Light kill the monsters of the moon, we like to call them demons. We only fight them during daylight, because under the light of the moon is when they are in their truest form, making them almost impossible to kill. The Sentinels of Dark kill the monsters of the sun, also known as Angels, but they prefer to call them Fire-birds. The only time that a Fire-bird can die is under pure moonlight. The Sentinels of Light and The Sentinels of Dark have had an ongoing dangerous, bloody war since the beginning of time. We were told not to hesitate to kill on sight, several of us have gone on missions and never returned. I left because of the danger and heartbreak that the job title of a Sentry included.

I now live in a studio apartment in New York City, hiding from the Sentry's. I find myself checking the ally way that is behind my apartment building before I go to bed. I suppose taking precautions are still in my blood. On another note, I made friends, human friends. Katherine Shea and Mason Williams are my best and only friends. I still haven't told them about being a Sentry, I'm afraid they will leave if I do tell them. I might not ever tell them.

I look up at the tall apartment building, buzzing into Mason's apartment. I hear a click on the door, and open it. I begin to walk up the long stairwell to the top, which is the location of Mason's apartment. By the time I make it to the top, my legs are burning and I'm gasping for air. I reach Mason's apartment. I walk in unannounced, and plop down on the grimy old couch.  Breathing in a lung full of air, I scream "Is anyone home, I'm bored!"

I look at the moon shining through the windows into the dark room, I suppose that no ones home. I close my eyes and bask in the silence of the temporarily abandoned apartment. Creak. I bolt upright, eyes analyzing the apartment. I stand and open my mouth to scream when I see a silhouette of a person standing in front of me. Before I can make a sound, a hand clamps over my mouth and I feel breath blowing against my neck. "Don't worry, Darling. I promise I won't hurt you, but i'm going to need you to go to sleep now." A low voice with a slight accent whispers in my ear. I feel my self begin to loose consciousness. My last thought before the darkness consumed me was,

"SHIT!"
