the young girl's mouth let out smoke as she spoke to the man next to her on the balcony.
"why are you so worried about me?"
"...i'm just saying. are you sure your parents won't be worried about you being out this late?"
she laughed, smoke once again being pushed into the night sky. she eyed the rolled up joint between her fingers before responding.
"they'll be fine. now shut up and kiss me."
the man put down his bottle of beer and didn't hesitate to put his lips on hers, smirking while doing so.
the girl, who was higher than the building they were in, jumped into his arms and wrapped her legs around his waist.
the sounds of making out and laughter moved into the bedroom as the doors of the balcony closed and the used-up joint dropped onto the cement floor.

a few days later.
"where have you been? no one could reach you because you left your phone here, and the guards didn't see you come home! do you know how worried we were?"
yelling was the first thing she heard as soon as she walked through the doors of her house. she rolled her eyes and looked at the well-dressed man in front of her.
"it's nice to see you again too, dad. i haven't seen you in forever and your version of 'good morning' just now, really made up for it." she smiled sarcastically as she threw her bag on the living room couch. "what's for breakfast? i'm starving."
"ji minsoo."
the girl turned around slowly, as her father spoke out her full name. she looked at him in horror and waited for the angered lecture to hit her in the face.
"i told you i had to speak to you about something very important."
minsoo sighed, half in relief and half in regret. she responded after a few seconds.
"i know.. i'm sorry."
her dad looked at her, thoughtfully. he reached for her arms, then pulled her into a long-awaited embrace.
"i missed you so much."
she hugged him back, just as tight.
"i missed you too."
he finally let go after what felt like hours, "okay, go eat. we'll talk some other time."
the girl smiled and hopped to the kitchen in happiness.
the older man walked a few rooms away, into his office, and called someone on his phone.
the other line picked up immediately.
"hello, sir?"
"hey, i'm going to have to reschedule that meeting of ours."
"no worries. we understand, sir."
"thank you, taeil. greet the others for me."
