smoke lingers in the air, whine bottles scattered across the small New York apartment. The faint sound of classic jazz could be heard in the room, there on the cream colored sofa lay a small figure, a woman to be precise. The woman rose from her previous position, eyes blurred from the smoke and wine. She proceeded to the bathroom, running the tap water to rinse her face, she opens the cabinet reaching for the prescription medication, the meow of a cat was heard in the apartment. Shutting the water off the woman gets dressed and heads out into the street. The sound of frequent taxis passing, large advertisement's screamed across the jumbo screens, she walked no purpose as to why but she proceeded. Upon arriving to a rail road she stood and waited, the train roaring from around the corner the woman took a step forward, when the sound of a cat was made clear of. The train cries could be heard, she only blinked when it passed by. She made her way back to the heart of the city. The sun had risen by the time she had entered the tall glass building, making her way up to the 17th floor. Upon taking her seat at her desk a black cat accompanies her, its purring loud only to cause the woman to sigh. The clock ticked, people started to pour in, a simple «Good morning» would blandly slip out of her lips, forwarded to her fellow coworkers. A heavy sigh left her dry mouth as it was time for a break, placing a hand on the head of her fellow feline for affection, and only receive a wound in response. Upon entering the break room all eyes were on her, a sigh leaving once again her lips, she proceeded to fill a cup of coffee. Minutes later a man walked in receiving the same reaction as her, all eyes rose to meet the young man, although she kept to her task. When the room became oddly stiff she looked up, eyes landing on the man still standing, fear was present on his face. The two exchanged glances, the sound of a meow breaking the contact, she proceeded to continue her task. The man stood afraid when he caught sight of the woman he felt assured but the howl of a dog brought his fear back up. The bell rung loudly as the building poured out its contents of employees into the street. Making his way back to union station embarking on the train the dog bites at his ankles. He wearily looks left and right, fear began to suffocate him, he briskly got off the train. Taking in the cool air he enter his home, dark and cool, with the flick of a switch the house lit up like a Christmas tree. He felt assured and warm, but the cold of his heart was frozen to ice.
The sun was shinning, birds singing and people walking. He was out for a stroll when he had seen the woman, making his way towards her he greets her with a simple «good evening». The dog was barking, the woman looked at him , fatigue was written on her face, the cat just purred. She responded with a small smile that lasted a second. The dog biting his feet caused him to franticly look around and forget what he was doing. The women just stood there, the cat rubbing against the sneering dog, peering at the man she rests her hand on his shoulder comforting him, the action causing the feline to hiss at the dog whom was at peace. The two made their way to a small café, steam rising out of the cup she held, the man seemed at ease once they sat in the corner at the window. Peering out the window the woman sighs, the mans lips curve as he looks over the woman, soon turning to a frown when the cat growls at the man admiring the woman. The dog became agitated nibbling the mans arm, the woman falls back to her senses, looking at the man as he looks around the room, too occupied to notice her admiring his frame. She once again lays her hand on the lost mans, he snaps his attention to her, a smile gracing her lips he mirrors her expression. The feline rubs against the canine as the two walk out the café hand in hand, they part ways with a small peck on the cheek. After the departure of the two the canine rushed to the ankles of the man and the cat cried at the woman. Clock ticking and women typing, the office hours were almost over, looking around the room with dull eye she lands them on the man from the café, he was speaking to another lady, looking away at the papers in hand the cat meow out of sorrow. Little did she know the dog nibbling at his ankles as he would steal glances towards her. Her eyes focused at the task at hand, he couldn't wait to talk to her but was held back by the wound the canine was inflicting. The roaring of the bell rang across the office, he sat and waited until everyone left, she would always do the same, as if she had nothing to do, almost as if she was waiting for someone to take up her time. He takes one last glance at her only to be frozen by her eyes staring right at him. Nervous, he breaks the ice and makes his way towards her. He asked the women to coffee, exchanging words as they strolled in the streets. What seemed like minutes of conversing, they were forced out as the café was closing, the man and women left the café to converse some more in her apartment. Upon entering the apartment smoke burned the mans lungs but soothed his mind as it reminded him of her. They sat on the cream sofa and drank some wine while listening to the jazz that played on repeat. For once the dog and cat could rest, curled up on the lonely love seat in the corner of the room. Moon light spilled through the window shades onto the couple in the room, hot breaths vanished in the cool air, moans and smiles were shared, That night the man and women showed their inner animals. Sun kissed the newly lovers skin as it set upon the horizon, The couple woke up to the unusual smirk on their mask, the façade was broken they were truly one. Days were better , nights unforgettable, the beasts were tamed no more headaches from the constant shouts from the feline as well as the bone breaking bites from the canine. Months pass the two have grown accustomed to one and another, everyday they would converse at the café before saying their goodbyes. Some nights he would wonder only to wound back up at her door step like a lost mutt, and spend the night with her in his embrace. One night after work the women sat at the café at the usual spot, tea in hand the steam dancing as it vanished, the man hadn't shown up. She parted, heading back to her apartment.Laying across her cold sheets the cat crawls up to keep her company only to cease the slumber she desperately awaited. The next morning the man showed up and overlooked her, taking his place at his desk. The cats cries could be heard ringing in her ears, calling to the dog whom chewed to the bone of the man. His concerns were strong he had forgotten to tell her about yesterday, as he stood up to confront her his manager pulls him aside. The women looked at her man as the lady looked at him with longing eyes. The cat now clawing at her hand the women arises and proceeds to leave work early. The ache he felt when he watched his lover walk out burdened him, he thought he had lost it all. Growl's escaped the canine mouth as he rushed after her, upon exiting he had lost her, for she was nowhere in sight. Later that day he sat at the usual table in the café and waited until her small figure would walk through the door with the smile he oh so adored. Time passed , people came and went and no sing of her, he was forced to stand outside as the café closed, his love was stronger than anything.
Once again smoke lingered in the air, a half empty wine bottle sat in the palms of the small figure. She was lost in thought, the med bottles sprawled on the coffee table, the cat siting is the corner as she sat lost in her mind. The man waited at the café for the women to arrive, he had stood there for a hour when the dog had started to nip at his ankles, Watching as the pople walk past not giving another thought. He had stood for two hours when he couldnt stand the dog chewing his flesh away, his feet moved without consent as he made his way up to her apartment. Climbing up the staires the cainie lunges ahead blocking his path, sneering at the love blinded man. Francticly glancing back and fourth between the dog and door, he proceedes to ascend up ingoring the companion. Upon opening the door smoke fills his lungs burning but soothing, looking around the small appartment no sign of anything living. Jazz music played as he entered the living room the still half bottle of wine on the ground next to a empty bottle of medication. He could here the faint cries of a cat at the end of the hall, the canine still nipppng his bone, he spoke a simple «Hello?» no response only to cause the dog to bite the bone. Rushing towards the cries he opens a door leading to the bathroom, there infront of him was the women laying in the tub the water over flowing as the cat struggled to keep above water. The man couldn't watch, the dog snaping his ankle, he rushed to pull her out of the bath, carrying her limb body out of the appartment out to the sidewalk hoping that someone would help. Lights flashed as the ambulances and first responders rushed to the scene, he watched as his beloved companion was hoisted into the cab of the ambulance. Without a second thought he rushed to the street desperately trying to get a taxi, the canines barks clashing with the sound of traffic. Blinding lights fill his vision bringing him peace. At the hospital heart monitors rang loudly as the patient was rushed into the room, she would see the odd flick of lights as they rolled through the halls. the cat was heard clearly over the heart monitor, the women was only trying to get rid of that pest of a feline but it seemed only the presence of the dog would keep it at bay. She was left to take the maters into her own hands, even if it costs her own life, the last thing she remembered was the bright light, bringing her peace.
The cold crisp air kissed her skin, the waves crashing against the sand, there she stood on the beach, toes hugging the sand her hair waving in the wind. No emotions to cry and scratch at her, only solitude and peace. Her peace was disrupted by a warm embrace from behind, looking up she was met with that unforgivable smile she oh so missed. Spinning around she embraces his figure, a tear slides down her face not because she's sad, but because she was free with the one she only wanted. They were finally unrestricted from the burdens that followed them they were free to feel the warmth they held for each other, they had finally got ridden of their ankle nipping anxiety and the outcry's of depression..
