DO NOT base characters entirely off of yourself

I see this alot, and I do it too, but just don't.

1)Repetitive story

In alot of my old drafts I noticed a few things

1) All characters shared a similar age range/goal
2) All settings were too similar

This will make you fall intoa writing block, repeating the same story over and over.

2) Personal bias

This is the worst thing you could do, and my eriting suffers from this factor the most. To create diverse sets of characters, don't keep it in your point of veiw! They need to do other things, or else you get bored of them knowing how they feel. Instead, try putting yourself in their shoes.

Ex: You recently lost your only parent figure, and have been in coma for a year. You can't let go of your feelings, but have no outlet.

This is something I've not entirely experienced, and need to think of what my character's drive is, their goal. Don't do a "what would I do" as that spoils the story.

As a vent, in one of my stories I tried adding in a scene, but in the dytopian society the main character is from, it doesn't make sense for it to happen.

RL: My family has started to hit the "please stop this offends me" target on me with politics. In a slight act of rebel (and it was hard to manage) I cut off 2 feet of hair.

Now, I tried to add this into a story about a warrior that looses her sister, the only person who loved her. And she doesn't have a "family", plus in this society, everyone follows one religion, so this unables most of it happening. But instead of completely scrapping the idea, I modify it.

SL: in the story, Milky (human ver. Is Molly) is in a forest during a fire, and her hair gets damaged. To keep from further damage, she cuts it all off, and goes from long hair to boy cut.

Also with bias opinion being reflected in-character, if you have a character based off a friend who ends up being a complete cr*p shoot, opinion in the story of said character may change with no explanation. If the real life person hit you, the character should alzo be guilty of something, to either scrap them from the story or make them become more of an antaganist.

Thats all I have for now! Do YOU have any suggestions? DM them and they might be featured! Thanks for tuning in :)
