Chapter 50: Silent night

Thursday, May 19 2016, time unknown

I return back to earth, I hear a sound and quickly turn my head towards my window. I saw that for some reason it is open, even though I remember it being closed before I went to bed. I got up and shut it once more. I simply crawl under my covers and try to get back to sleep. That's when I have a strange feeling, that someone is watching me. I look up, and nearly jump out of my bed. There, in the little ray of light, illuminating from between my curtains, is a pair of two eyes. These aren't regular eyes; they are dark, ominous eyes. They are bordered in black and just plain out terrify me. That's when I saw his mouth. A long, horrendous smile that make every hair on my body stand up. The figure stood there, watching me silently. He swooped next to me, pulled up a knife; aiming at my heart. He jumped on top of my bed. I try to fight him back; I kick, I punch, I roll around, trying to knock him off me, he is stronger than me, he’s one of them.

I finally get him off me; he could see that I am strong for an average girl of my age. The man turns and runs down the hallway. I hear a smash, like glass breaking. As I come out of my room, I see the window that is pointing towards the back of my house is broken. I look out it to see him vanish into the distance. I can tell you one thing; I will never forget that face with those cold, evil eyes and that psychotic smile. They will never ever leave my head.

I wander downstairs, enter the lounge - and gasp. I fight back the bitter-tasting bile that floods my mouth. Counting from one to ten as I slowly exhale, I took a second look. This time the vomit won, and splashes onto the blood-soaked floor. My eyes streaming and my knees trembling, I try to control myself I start to sweat, my throat feels red-raw, and a foul taste explores my mouth.

I glance at the first butchered victim, the abdomen was slit open, and its intestines spilling out like foul sausages. I felt his eyes on me. I look around, four more people are here. Willing myself not to vomit, or cry again, I look in turn at each of the five. I sniffed lightly. I’m sure I’ll never get used to foetid stenches like this. I gag, but no more vomit emerged. No tears came: my ravaged eyes couldn’t even cry anymore.

First, I look over at the woman who lies there, her face is badly bruised. The main blood vessels of her neck had been drained from both sides. The abdomen had been stabbed and slashed repeatedly.

The second victim’s swollen tongue bulges it is repulsive and disgusting, face is also bruised but battered and swollen. The throat, slashed and the abdomen viciously hacked.

The third wasn’t so gruesome. The only apparent injury was the obvious cause of death. The throat had been drained of blood.

The fourth made up for the third’s lack of goriness! Of course, the killer used the trademark, the abdomen was tortured. It had been opened from the rectum to the breastbone, the intestines draped over the shoulder. A glance revealed that one of the kidneys has been taken. The nose and an earlobe have been removed. The features have also been disfigured – there are peculiar cuts on the eyelids and cheeks. Staring at the stranger on the floor, I stood frozen, studying every tiny part of the disfigured human.

I felt too much horror to be nauseous. I imagined the deaths of these five people. The frantic battle for survival must have aroused the killer to a frenzy of slashing when finally overpowering them.

I hear a noise. Footsteps! My heart feels as though it is about to leap from my chest. I listen; heavy breathing and whispers surround me. They repeated my name, over and over, ‘Scarlet.’ The whispers sounded more sinister than any noise I’d ever heard before. Far scarier than gunshots I’ve heard on TV. Have I survived being killed by some deranged killer? I’d certainly fight with all I had, but if I lost, would the killer carve me worse than his last victim?
