intro

byeongkwan can remember being picked up after school by kim sehyoon, a sixteen-year-old boy he was the best of friends with.

sehyoon can remember picking up kim byeongkwan after school, a thirteen-year-old boy he was the best of friends with.

but something easily ruined that reality.

byeongkwan and sehyoon drove down to a park that day, the sky grey, and almost about to rain. sehyoon wanted to hurry it up, but he didn't want to seem so rude.

he was going to break the boy when he told him anyway.

the two sit on the swingset, side by side, byeongkwan swinging as high as he can go, and sehyoon loitering near the ground.

"come on, sehyoon-hyung, swing with me!"

sehyoon watches the brunet boy swing by over and over again, swinging his legs to force him forward a little more every time.

"byeongkwan-ah, can you stop for a moment?"

byeongkwan immediately jumps from the swing, and lands feet first on the woodchips in front of the swings. he turns to sehyoon and smiles, wanting his hyung to be proud he could do such a trick without hurting himself.

he stops the swing from waving around and plops down onto the plastic seat. he continues to smile which makes sehyoon feel even worse.

"what is it, sehyoon-hyung?"

just say it quickly, like ripping off a band-aid. quick and without hesitation.

"i'm moving to jeolla-do within a week, byeongkwan-ah."

byeongkwan's smile is immediately wiped from his face. his eyes turn glossy, as he looks away from his hyung to the ground of woodchips under his feet.

"i'm sorry byeongkwan, it's just," sehyoon scoffs. "my father got a new job, and everyone is going with him. even eunsuh and grandma, it's just-"

"sehyoon-hyung, it's okay."

"what?"

"i said it's okay," byeongkwan says calmly, blinking away his tears. "we can always visit, right?"

"r-right."

before his hyung could respond, byeongkwan stood up from his swing and stood in front of sehyoon. he leaned down and hugged sehyoon tightly.

"promise you'll come back to see me again?"

"i can't promise anything, byeongkwanie-"

"no, promise me." byeongkwan restates. "promise me you won't just disappear."

sehyoon's eyes gaze at the brunet, hugging him tightly, with his face buried in the crook of sehyoon's neck. he wraps his arms around the thirteen-year-old, and sighs.

"i promise."
