You Still Have A Strange Effect On Me

I was flying through space in my car, I wasn't really planning on going anywhere until I passed the planet that homed the best arcade in the galaxy, Blips and Chits. I had some spare change from the trade I had just made so I decided a stop at Blips and Chits wouldn't hurt.

I steered my car to the planet and parked outside the arcade, I spotted a vehicle that seemed oddly familiar parked next to mine but I just brushed it off as one I've seen here before. I got a few tokens and played a few of my favourite games before running out of tokens and leaving.

I walked out of the arcade and towards my car to see two people standing outside of the one next to mine, the hood was up so they must've been having problems with it, well that's their problem I gotta get something to eat.

I was about to get in my car before I heard a voice.

"Hey uhhh you got a screwdriver b-by any chance?" A rough males voice spoke, I swear I've heard that voice somewhere, I turned to face the man and it hit me, Rick Sanchez C-137, how I'd wished I'd never see that man again.

"Oh um no sorry, can't help you there, bye," I rushed out those words before quickly getting in my car and starting it up but before I took off I heard him again.

"Hooooly shit, (Y/n)? (Y/n) (L/n)?" He said with a chuckle and walked closer to my car, I rolled down the window in defeat.

"Hey, Rick," I said sounding less enthusiastic than he was.

"It's been, what, 4 years?" He spoke leaning his folded arms on my car door.

"About 9 years, actually," I corrected him with a bored tone, I just wanted to get home.

"Hey uh you wouldn't mind giving an old friend and his grandson a lift?" He asked pointing his thumb at Morty, Morty waved awkwardly.

"Don't you have a portal gun?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"I left it at home if I had it d-do you really think I'd have been trying t-to get the car started for 15 minutes now?"He said sarcastically. I sighed and nodded my head signalling them to get in, Rick nodded and tapped the door as a thanks and walked around to the passenger side as Morty got in the back. I left the planet and began the slow journey through space.

"Have y-you got any music?" Morty asked breaking the awkward silence, "There's an AUX cord," I said picking up one end and handing it to him he whispered a thanks and plugged it into his phone, the music played quietly through the speakers of the car.

Memories from 9 years ago began playing in my head, I remember flying through space in this car with Rick as we listened to music sometimes singing along to certain songs, our songs.

I was jolted back to reality by Ricks' voice.

"So how've you been?" He asked looking over at me obviously trying to read my face.

"Decent, nothings really happened, just trying to get through each day I guess," I lied, a lot has happened in 9 years.

"What about you, how are things?" I asked, now it was my turn to attempt to read his face.

"Yeah uh it's been pretty uneventful," I could tell he was lying, I did know him very well. Even though I haven't seen him in years he still couldn't get a lie past me, I looked in my rearview mirror and even Morty had the word liar written all over his face, something must've happened, something big.

I didn't want to push him though, so I just nodded in response, the rest of the ride was quiet, the music was the only sound filling the car apart from the occasional shuffle of movement from Morty in the back.
